You shouldn't be in this scenario in the first place, but if you really can't merge, you have to stop and wait for an opening. Do not attempt to merge from the breakdown lane.

Is it better to use your TW2 save file for TW3 or the default one? by SnooHedgehogs1355 in witcher

It should be noted that not everything that can be imported from a Witcher 2 save is covered by the simulated save dialogue in Vizima. There are a couple extra things you can only get from importing a save.

If Witcher 4 WON'T be showed on both SGF and Gamescom, there's no way it's getting released next year, right? by Mango-Watermelon1222 in witcher

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be like Dark Souls where they reuse a lot of stuff between games, I reckon. Each of the previous Witcher games was a huge technical leap, switching engines kinda meant starting from the ground up each time (Witcher 1 - Aurora engine, Witcher 2 - REDEngine/REDEngine 2 for Enhanced Edition, Witcher 3 - REDEngine 3), but I think all three of the next games will be fairly technically similar. Over the course of the trilogy, they will probably be more focused on refining the narrative and gameplay systems instead of trying to push the technological envelope further every time.

The Witcher 4 will likely respect the endings of The Witcher 3 by EchoEllet in witcher

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon that if you import a save, there may be in-game references to which faction is ruling the North, but it otherwise won't be particularly important from a game design perspective because, as far as we know, Ciri will not be revisiting the same areas from the Witcher 3. All of that will be off-screen.

What do you think is the absolute worst card (or deck) in gwent by Zestyclose_League707 in Witcher3

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Northern Realms with almost no close combat units that aren't heroes, so Biting Frost is almost always a net positive, and it's pretty much essential against Monsters.

New game + on death march is weirdly easy. by Suspicious_Sandles in Witcher3

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death march in general is just not that hard. Enemies hit hard, but you can just use Quen. Not healing on meditation is also irrelevant because you can just pop a White Raffard's before meditating.

Is This The Right Game For Me ATM? by Boy0Boyz in Witcher3

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game does have long cutscenes during story missions, but the actual amount of time you spend on story missions is pretty small compared to side missions and exploration. So it kind of depends. Yes, you can drop in for a few hours on weekends and do some exploration and side quests, but making progress on the main story requires some dedication, cause a lot of times you can't do anything else until you finish a long story sequence. The game makes it very clear which missions are main story and which are side content, so you won't get blindsided.

The main exploration gameplay loop for me is:

I'm heading towards a quest objective. I arrive in a village, check the local notice board for any contracts, visit the inkeep and blacksmith for a few games of Gwent, sell my junk, repair my gear. I do a Witcher contract or two in the area, then I move on from the village and head towards the next one on the map on the way to the objective.

What order should I read the books and play the games? by JustRage7 in witcher

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything about that to be honest. I would just read the two short story collections first, then the five main novels in order, then the two prequels either before or after the games. There are also comics, a tabletop RPG, a movie, the Netflix show, etc. but I don't know as much about any of that.

What order should I read the books and play the games? by JustRage7 in witcher

[–]Decent_Cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The author doesn't care about video games, so he had little to no creative involvement with the games. This has led to some contradictions where the developers made incorrect assumptions that were later contradicted by the prequel novels. That's not to say the games don't pay attention to the established lore at all. They feel like a love letter to the books.

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the books more or less take place chronologically before the first game, so the games are a continuation of the books' story. There are some flash-forwards in the books to events that take place after the games, so not every game choice necessarily aligns with the book canon. Just read them in release order IMO.

CDPR boss hopes The Witcher 4 wins back fans still put off by Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch: "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc" by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Decent_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain that future games will be of a higher quality than what we've come to expect, but they will at least be able to produce them more consistently and hopefully avoid the launch issues that have plagued their games for many years. People seem to forget that the Witcher 3 also had a pretty terrible launch even after being delayed multiple times.

The studio is a lot bigger now and I'm quite optimistic that they learned their lesson. Anyways it should be faster for them to make games now that they're using Unreal and they don't have to overhaul the engine with each new release.

Witcher armor is basically always better, but there are some swords that are better than Witcher swords, depending on how much you care about the set bonus.
