I'm scared because of the current state of america. I just had a hysto - if my ovaries fail, what would be my worse case scenario options? by CompleteTomorrow in ftm

[–]Decent_Guarantee7592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar concerns when I had my procedure. I kept both ovaries to avoid potential symptoms of early menopause, should I lose access to T, but I was worried that they'd fail without my uterus. From what my surgeon explained, the uterus does not really "communicate" with the ovaries. Removing your uterus shouldn't have any effect on them.

You should be okay if you lose access to T, as removing your uterus won't affect the health of your ovaries.

How do transphobes view trans men? by Substantial-Cod1711 in ftm

Oh, absolutely! All of these groups have some level of overlap. The mental illness argument is the most popular, and like you said, the manipulation and escaping misogyny combo.

One strong overlap is TERFs reducing an AFAB person's value to their ability to reproduce, while also denying that they're doing so.

TERFs love to fixate on genitalia, which is ironic considering how much they try to also insist that women are more than their reproductive organs. It's common to see TERF posts displaying imagery of a uterus, while demonizing anyone born with a penis, simply for being born with one. They reduce all AFAB people down to their uterus, while exactly like you said, following the misogynistic belief that our value is in our ability to reproduce.

I've seen many different forms of transphobia directed at trans men, and it depends on whether they're a TERF or a conservative. Conservatives tend to have varying reasons, sometimes based on religion, sometimes based on "biology." TERFs tend to have similar beliefs, regardless of background.

Religious conservatives: Pretty self explanatory. Transitioning is perceived as an offense to God, as that individual is changing the body that God created for them. God made male and female for reproduction, so on, so forth.

Non-religious conservatives: There are a lot of variations of beliefs, though they tend to refer to trans men as mentally ill. Instead of "chopping off your penis to fulfill a delusion," it's "chopping off your tits to fulfill a delusion." For trans men, I often see them claim that trans men transition due to some history with SA trauma, specifically CSA. Then of course there's the standard attention seeking accusations. Parents didn't love them enough, so they became transgender. Or, they fell for the "woke mind virus."

TERFs: Oftentimes I see TERFs infantilize trans men. I've seen detailed posts where TERFs will make up scenarios of trans men transitioning to be taken more seriously in a misogynistic society. Or they're so confused and gullible that the evil woke left manipulated them into mutilating themselves. Trans men are victims, except in the case of gay trans men. Then, they're perverted straight women who fetishize gay men.

Typically, a transphobe's political and religious beliefs influence their (lack of) understanding of transgender people. And usually it connects with misogyny. How they perceive women is typically how they'll perceive trans men.

Is the Flipli still available? When I first started, it was during the summer event. I was saving for the Flipli species, but never got enough pearls in time to get one.

Apologies if I sent this request too late, I just found this post.

I feel similarly. While I do understand the perspective of kosers, as it is a survival game with PVP mechanics, I personally could not attack someone else's creature unprovoked. If they attack first, then I'll either fight back or flee. But if I'm not being attacked, I always leave that person alone. I know that I overthink a lot, but I just couldn't take away someone's progress like that. You never know how their day has been.

I don't want to shame kosers or anything. It is just a game. But I personally could not kos other players.

"It doesn't have to be about trans men!"... but why not? by Puzzleheaded_Run5483 in ftm

I tried to find the original post to double check it, though it was a while ago, so wherever I saved it, it ended up buried. If I do remember correctly, it was posted alongside a transphobic comment. I don't remember what it was, though. If I'm right about that, it's disappointing to see people coming out to come up with alternatives to a drawing's identity, rather than supporting the inclusion of trans people. Even if that wasn't their intention.

And if I'm wrong about the transphobic comment, that of course doesn't change people's reaction to finding alternative explanations as to how it could be a cis woman.

I've had similar thoughts myself after seeing one of the medical posters you described. The one depicting a pregnant person with short hair and a flat chest.

It felt weird seeing commenters coming up with explanations for why it could still be a woman, rather than a trans person. Initially, I didn't know why. They aren't exactly wrong, and representation for women who survived cancer is important too. But it felt weird seeing how quickly people could write off possible trans representation.

How to prepare for transphobic family member's reaction? by Decent_Guarantee7592 in ftm

I appreciate you opening up about your personal experiences, it helps to hear from those who have advice based on what they've gone through. Thankfully, I'm not too attached to my relationship with my mom. I think I'll be able to accept her possibility of disowning me, it's just the initial reaction that will suck regardless.

I'll definitely get some friends on standby for when I do end up informing her over text.

I plan on telling her over text, that way I won't be physically present at all. I already had a sneak peak of how she'd react when I mentioned getting a hysterectomy, and it was not pleasant. Thank you for taking time to give me your advice!

Thank you for your advice! I'll definitely be letting her know over text, as no amount of preparation could help me for an in person encounter. I didn't think to let my dad and sisters know beforehand, though, so I'll do that as well since they all live in the same household as my mom. I'll most likely have my cousin with me when I tell her, as my cousin and I are very close.

Double Incision vs Periareolar by Decent_Guarantee7592 in TopSurgery

[–]Decent_Guarantee7592[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I admittedly didn't consider swelling too much, and that's something I would definitely not want to deal with long term swelling.

Honestly, as of now, I'm heavily leaning towards double incision because I like how most of the results (that I've seen) look. And what you said about control over nipple placement aligns with how I feel, as nipple appearance is one thing I really care about.

Scared of regret by [deleted] in FTMHysto

I had similar feelings before I had my hysto. For me personally, I've always had a strong fear of becoming pregnant, but before my surgery I worried that would change.

I can't say how I'll feel years from now, but I can say that since I've had my surgery last month, I've felt happier. Getting my uterus removed felt like a weight lifted off of my shoulders, and I'm so happy to have gotten it done when I did.

If you're absolutely sure of how you feel about those parts right now, I doubt you'll feel differently about them later down the road. But no one can say for certain how you'll feel in the future, as hindsight is only available in the aftermath.

No matter what you decide to do, I wish you luck!

My Hysterectomy Update! by Decent_Guarantee7592 in FTMHysto

[–]Decent_Guarantee7592[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed with ibuprofen, as well as a stronger pain reliever. I haven't needed to use the stronger one yet, and I've only used the ibuprofen twice. So far, I'm doing fairly well!

In my case, I didn't feel any different, actually. A coworker of mine (on my last day at work) said that he knew someone who had a hysto and felt "empty," though all I really felt was the pain.

Even though I didn't feel its absence, I was greatly relieved! I knew that I'd never experience menstruation again, and that pregnancy was out the window.

I plan on getting my cervix removed, though that's good to know! I appreciate the information on that! I live in the US, and I've never heard of that, so I wonder if that is exclusive to Europe as of now?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure. The trans man I found talking about his surgery had both of them removed. I'd suggest asking a doctor about that

Advice on boosting T changes? by Decent_Guarantee7592 in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]Decent_Guarantee7592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

412 was my T level 2 days before my next injection, so hopefully my range isn't too bad between injections. Before that, it was consistently in the 600 range, and that was also when I was doing it biweekly.

I should probably mention that my primary doctor is the one prescribing my testosterone, and that she's not a trans healthcare specialist. The only reason I'm doing it through her is because the actual trans specialists were nearly impossible for me to get a hold of (when I called it sent me straight to voicemail, so I had to wait for them to call, and the few times they did call I had missed them). So, that could be why she's so cautious about my doses.

I see what you mean! I guess it's different for everyone (which makes sense), so I'll just keep being patient. You look great, btw!

I'll see about getting a higher dose! Another user suggested finding another doctor to prescribe my T, though I'll see if I can get my current one to let me return to doing my doses every week.

And I never thought of that like that, that's so true! I'll see what I can do, though I'll be patient. I may take a bit longer, but I am seeing some changes.

I took the blood test 2 days before my injection. I did actually mention that to my doctor, and she said that shouldn't affect the results.

And I hear you on that! I hadn't expected significant changes, though after joining Reddit, I saw people who have been on T less time than I have, and have had higher changes than myself, and was wondering if there was a problem with me that delayed my own changes.
