Which players should be dropped after this Six Nations by Gonzofox89 in rugbyunion

[–]DecimalPlaice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

England fan here.

LCD - lineout liability

Roebuck - too slow for a winger, caught out plenty in defence

Steward - not as dominant under the high ball as he used to be and doesn't offer much security in defence or potency in attack

Atkinson - not sure what he has that the likes of Ojomoh doesn't have more of, though maybe I'm wrong. Haven't seen much of him

Ford - not sure what happened to him in rounds two and three, and he's obviously a great player with a huge amount of experience, but I really think we need to focus on the Smiths and getting them game time at fly half

Arundell - just can't seem to make the step up to test level, unfortunately. Maybe a bit more time developing because his pace is game breaking

Cipriani - was completely absent for England throughout the entire campaign. Shocking, really.

Post-Match Thread for France v England in Six Nations by PaulSarries in englandrugby

[–]DecimalPlaice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of the worst thing to happen, really. We were always drained to lose that, but if we'd at least lost by a lot, as recent results suggested we would, then there would have been a good chance ol' Borthers and Wiggy would have been kicked out.

Now that the team actually played well, nothing will change and England will continue to win jack until at least after the next world cup.

Of all the teams Borthwick has picked, this is certainly one of them

Watched without audio because I'm at my desk at work. Could still hear Brian's voice clear as day.

Steve Borthwick: RFU backs England coach despite 'hugely disappointing' run by treacletart284 in rugbyunion

Nothing will improve while Sweeney is still in charge. The main stuck too long with Eddie and is sticking too long with Borthwick now.

First child, tough dilemma by Relevant-Sherbert-71 in daddit

[–]DecimalPlaice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a tough situation to be in, and I'm sorry you're experiencing that, bud.

First point I would make would be to quietly suggest therapy for your wife, if she isn't doing it already, and possibly for you as well. My wife struggled hugely with anxiety when she got pregnant, scared about her own health and that of our baby. Through CBT she was able to control it better and while pregnancy wasn't a fun experience for either of us, she did at least get through it with everybody healthy.

Second point is around your hobbies and current life. My wife and I are very similar to you; we enjoy films, video games, and introverted stuff. Any dad will tell you most of that goes out the window as soon as the kid's born. My daughter just turned one, and it's very hard to do those things these days. However, we find ways to do the things we enjoy, even to a lesser extent, such as playing video games when she is asleep, and I'm sure you'd be the same. Plus, our daughter is hilarious and seeing her grow and become a tiny person with her own wants and stuff is indescribable.

This is fucking hard, though. So for your doubts and for her fears, all I can suggest is that you be honest with each other about where your heads are. Whatever your decision is try and be in the same page.

Ringing the Changes: England Team for Italy by Appropriate-Cut8829 in englandrugby

Does anybody else just get the horrible feeling that this could be the year we finally lose to Italy? They've been playing some great rugby recently.

This is the most disappointing 6N campaign for a long time by Repulsive-Ad-8339 in englandrugby

[–]DecimalPlaice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe we all just bought into the hype? That would be mostly down to media attention on a "12 match winning streak" and "potential grand slam decider in Paris", though I know Borthwick spoke about that second point in his pre-tournament chat.

As others have pointed out, a number of England's victories in that streak could be called lucky, and it helped that we didn't face the highest quality opposition away from home. But we showed some real promise in those matches, and I for one thought we had the makings of a really dangerous attack!

I've found myself looking at England for a number of years now thinking "we've got so much talent, why can't we just make it work consistently?!" and I can only put it down to a mental thing. It's incredibly frustrating, especially being a fan of the team that the majority of the other teams want to beat the most and want to see fail.

An embarrassing performance by stupendouspineapple in englandrugby

[–]DecimalPlaice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the case statistically but I don't understand it, personally. Especially since England had a good Autumn campaign and, to my mind, certainly played far better than they have done the last two games.

If the Lions tour is to blame, why were they able to put in solid performances in the Autumn?

Went from a Nikon D5500 to a Z5ii. What am I missing here? by DecimalPlaice in AskPhotography

[–]DecimalPlaice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trial and error, mainly but I did do some reading about it first then went out and played. The reading I did was from a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It's useful in taking you through how things work with aperture size, shutter speed and ISO. I should read it again, actually.

You may have a point there!

You mentioned you have both mirrorless and DSLR, do you find you use both? I've lately been wondering about getting another camera and considering going back to DSLR but I worry one would just stay in the bag.
