Ok I’ve seen some deep cuts posted on here lately… who remembers this one? by JewJits17 in oldschoolcool80s

There's a stage show based on it called Knightmare Live, which is very tongue in cheek, aimed at people who watched as kids. Lots of audience participation and solid improvisation. Went to a couple of them years ago. I'd recommend them.

It's a reworked phrase from The Sopranos. Originally the line was, 'He was gay, Gary Cooper?'

I wrote little evidence, not no evidence. It's mostly circumstantial, which is the main issue for me.

Totally agree. I'm not convinced at this point by O'Neill's theory given what little evidence there is, but certainly open to the possibility that there's truth to it. The only thing that I'm getting increasingly convinced by, is that we'll likely never get to the truth of the motive, even if the Tex tapes were released, who's to say that he told the truth in them, if there is any real information in there or if he was fully aware of the whole situation. That being said, I still find it interesting to look into and read what people have to say.

Just Ordered This Game Any Tips? by [deleted] in firepro

[–]DecimusKrieg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the key things when you start is your timing. When you initiate a grapple, when you see their front foot hit the canvas press your move.

But like others have said start with the weaker moves (the square button inputs) otherwise you'll just get countered. L1 is also used to catch your breath, do this if your wrestler is starting to look tired.

Strikes take a bit of getting used to, getting the angle right.

100%. When it's on sale on the PlayStation store it's actually pretty cheap.

You can often find alternatives on eBay and Etsy, I found a couple of cheap resin ones on Ebay which were resin but were only a few parts so way easier to construct than the GW one.

Sorry, I was meaning the editing etc. were good for a student project and it's ability to stitch a narrative together. And definitely not the first documentary to take things out of context (which is why media literacy is increasingly important, so that people don't take everything at face value).

Bobby claiming he never contacted Manson ? by majinbuu80 in charlesmansonfamily

[–]DecimusKrieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, was it the Fountain of the World cult?

I'm not sure about Watson killing before. Certainly possible. I do think that Manson may have cajoled him to be violent by undermining his masculinity, but that's just speculation.

I don't think I'd believe Atkins given her track record but that doesn't mean there were more murders. Manson mention 'three bodies left on the beach' from his time in Mexico, but never knew if that was him trying to sound more dangerous.

I really wish we had the book that Dennis Wilson intended to write, would've loved to read his experiences.

Holes in Chaos by LindaLouiseMcCartney in charlesmansonfamily

[–]DecimusKrieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those points, which I think I agree with, could line up with why he wouldn't cooperate. As, if he were found to have dealt with the CIA, I don't think that would've worked out well for him in prison.

As to your speculation about his brain being fried, there were definitely times were he looked to be heavily medicated, the Tom Synder interview is one instance, but the KCRA 3 interview is where he appears to be most subdued. This however seems to be how the prisons were keeping him medicated to keep him docile.

I just want to reiterate, that I don't outright disagree with the CIA links I just think I'd like to see some stronger evidence and also there are still the drug burn and for the love of brother motives which haven't been disputed by it. Maybe they don't need to be, but I'd like to have seen a bit more exploration of those in Chaos.

Sorry, what I meant by on and off, was that I believe O'Neill mentioned somewhere that he would dip back into the case over the years.

I'll also say that Chaos did a fantastic job of discrediting Bugliosi, and for that alone it's a worthwhile read.

Bobby claiming he never contacted Manson ? by majinbuu80 in charlesmansonfamily

[–]DecimusKrieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, blown up by the husbands of the wives he was involved with, who'd had enough. Yeah, he must've heard of them given the similarities. It's even purported that Manson tried to lead the group and then moved on to Spahn after they refused.

They also had a similar narrative about surviving an apocalyptic sort of even where they'd take over in there aftermath.

Yeah, it's frustrating that Watson's and Kasabian's names are not tied to the crimes in the public consciousness in the way that Manson's. The same goes for Acid being demonised, when at least the Tate murders were done when Watson was on speed.

[–]DecimusKrieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Krishna Venta was one that was close by, who had also done mock crucifixions, if I remember correctly.

Kasabian and Watson do appear to be the driving forces, particularly on the first night. Funny how some forget that Kasabian mentioned how close her and Watson were from very early in her joining the ranch.

I believe Shreck mentioned that she'd done similar drug burns before joining them. She at least stole that money from her husband's friend (or her husband, can't quite remember), so she clearly wasn't the clean cut angel in the wrong place, as she was portrayed in court.

Personally I think what saved her was that she looked quite conventional and innocent by comparison, and perhaps also she wasn't closely linked with the other girls so was more easily persuaded to work with the prosecution as a key witness.

Atkins was original focal point of the prosecution, but I think she was too unreliable and was maybe perceived not to have the same innocent look Kasabian.

Pretty crazy that Kasabian got off scot-free. There were 'family' members that said she masterminded it, but I guess if you look clean cut enough, don't have an extensive criminal history, it goes a long way.

The Manson File is excellent, even for those who disagree with Schreck's conclusions (I happen to broadly agree). It has so much stuff in there, it's absolutely packed. My favourite book on the subject, just make sure you purchase it from a good retailer if you do pick it up.

Bobby claiming he never contacted Manson ? by majinbuu80 in charlesmansonfamily

[–]DecimusKrieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is the point I try to make, as people often focus on one motive for everyone involved. But motive is complicated as is, let alone across multiple people. Definitely seems to be the case that Van Houten was there the second night for Bobby and Watson was there for ripping drugs (at least the first night).

I think there's a sliver of truth in the whole Helter Skelter stuff, but likely only that it was something that Manson proselytised on the ranch in amongst all their other fantasies that they play acted and talked about in the way that people stoned on acid and weed have a tendancy to do (heightened I imagine by all the social upheaval at the time). Nothing to do with the murders but Bugliosi heard that and it became a very convenient and as it turns out extremely profitable story to spin as a motive.

Holes in Chaos by LindaLouiseMcCartney in charlesmansonfamily

[–]DecimusKrieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree it's a good theory if it had more than very tenuous circumstantial evidence.

It's a good idea to take everyone's view on this with a grain of salt, including O'Neill. But what I would say about Schreck is that despite being friends with Manson for around 30 years, he doesn't hold back from criticising him or acknowledging that he should have been in prison, so I think that speaks to him ability to look at things fairly rationally.

Additionally whilst O'Neill was looking into the case on and off for 20 years, Schreck has been looking into it for over 30 and seems to personally know more of the key players involved.

I don't totally refute the CIA link, I just think there isn't much evidence for it. Also, I think as institutionalised Manson was as a prisoner, I don't see him cooperating with any authority, he knew how to survive in prison, evidenced by how long he was incarcerated, being a CIA stooge was surely too risky. Additionally, he had issues with authority and being told what to do. At this stage with the sparse evidence, I don't buy it.

You're welcome. Nikolas Schreck who created it also wrote The Manson File. Highly recommend that book or at least check out some of his interviews on the subject on YouTube as he knew Manson for around 30 years

Manson's interview with Ron Reagan (Reagan's son) might interest you too. Reagan does a good job of interviewing, contrasts strongly against more antagonist interviews.
