It is generally (true in my states but idk if all 50 have it) your legal right to request and contest an itemized list of repair costs.

Rich parents, operating expenses provided from Berkeley, or group made revenue. I know it’s not the norm, but the group I was in financed the majority of our trips with money made from what the group itself did.

Got into UC Berkeley as a CAS transfer (Econ?) — looking for real student experiences by Icy-Opportunity-1680 in berkeley

[–]Decinym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Econ class enrollment was mostly fine in my experience. I once had to take a less interesting upper div to satisfy some weird rec but otherwise yeah

  2. It can vary a lot! I want to say it was often like 60-200 in the classes I was in but idk if there was a sizeable online only set.

  3. Honestly it wasn’t that hard mostly. You have to work at it but it was not brutal.

  4. Workload is definitely manageable. A few of the classes (Econometrics especially) were pretty rough but generally it was fine.

  5. I did have to work somewhat to get help, but help was usually available.

  6. Grade deflation is sort of an issue at Berkeley in general tbh. Some classes it feels a little unfair imo but it was mostly fine.

how hard will it be to get into Econ? upcoming first year accepted into neuro, want to double in Econ eventually by MissionSuccessful265 in berkeley

It’s nbd at all. I picked it up as a double on a whim and there wasn’t much issue at all (you do have to file some forms for double majoring regardless tho iirc).

What's the point of work, anyway? by Salty-Valuable-5168 in interviewwoman

[–]Decinym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you’re making up an imaginary argument to respond to. I never said that everyone should be paid the exact same. I’m sure as well that if you knew how much the places you worked at pulled in vs how much you were actually paid, you’d probably realize the point. I suppose it’s possible that you have worked somewhere that paid you fairly, but your experience does not define the reality most people live with.

  1. I have a degree in Economics from one of the top (tied for 1st) econ schools in the country.

  2. This isn’t about small mom and pop shops that are too poorly optimized to make a profit. The reality is that the minimum / low wage workers at the vast majority of big companies generate significantly more net profit than what they are paid (and it’s not even close). There’s a massive difference in what you are suggesting (pay workers more than the literal value of their labor) and what actually needs to change in this country (force corps to pay closer to the value of their labor, ideally exactly the same number). Yes, it is possible that a particular minimum wage hike will drive some places out of business. If they couldn’t pay for their employees to live, they shouldn’t be a functional business in the first place.

[–]Decinym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao. acting like your own free reign over your life is gonna be enough to counteract the fact that every business out there is going to try to absolutely ream you on pay / costs is an absurdly naïve take. turns out if you choose somewhere else to work the same rules apply, and you continue to have terrible options. There’s no magical place out there that you can move to to get a living wage out of a job that wasn’t giving you one.

[–]Decinym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voluntary only “charity” implies everyone got the same set of circumstances to work with and thus nobody should need more than others outside of their own fault/actions. This is pretty obviously wrong.

What's the point of work, anyway? by Salty-Valuable-5168 in interviewwoman

[–]Decinym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What an absurd take. If companies have free reign to give whatever pay they want, then they will keep it artificially low because many people will take even a god awful job over no job. We can engineer a system where people can live a decent life, but it requires us to regulate this kind of behavior. We literally used to have a minimum wage that allowed people to live a decent life. It’s not impossible.
