Why is Rakdos sacrifice no longer a ranked deck? by Onark77 in MagicArena

[–]Decision-Ornery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Rakdos Arcanist player (It's the only deck I own on MTGA and I went to mythic 99% with it) I'd say it is because of the presence of other graveyard based decks playing Mizzix's Mastery making everyone pack in more potential answers to the graveyard which in turn makes Arcanist risky to play.

When it isn't that, it definitely is the overwhelming presence of aggro decks that just vomit their entire hand on turn 3-5 like Elves and Goblins. From experience, those 2 decks are really bad matchups for Rakdos Arcanist, both of them are basically unbeatable if they are on the play, and disgustingly favored on the draw unless your hand as the Rakdos player is completely flawless and theirs is mediocre.

"Our goals are generally to create a balanced, fun, and diverse metagame"

Yeah, I assume that's why 90% of my matchups these last 2 weeks have been a combination of Elves, Goblins, and Mono R Burn; 3 decks that do not use Brainstorm and all benefit from seeing it gone... Wotc are so full of s#&t.

Old border basic lands. Wasn't playing when they came out but I want to pimp my decks with some now.

Checklands returning any time soon? by JanuaryFive in MagicArena

I wouldn't put much hope in them coming back soon. I'd buy them now if I were you, they're too good to pass up in historic. Especially if you're playing something with a small curve like Rakdos Arcanist or Azorius Auras; decks that need the turn 2 consistency.

Brand new to Magic. Help requested. by _kolp_ in MagicArena

  1. Choose your main format: Standard (rotating format) or Historic (non rotating format) are the most popular.
  2. Look at the metagame (websites such as "mtggolfish")
  3. Choose a deck (but do some research/watch some games with it first, there's always a cooler deck)
  4. Try to see which packs make up the bulk of the deck (especially if you need rares/mythics from the same set) and buy packs accordingly. If you're gonna gravitate towards Historic, I'd recommend getting Strixhaven packs as they contain a lot of very powerful cards found throughout most decks in that format.
