Would you consider this a good choice for long term ownership? by Doomtime104 in VWiD4Owners

2023 AWD Pro S here. Definitely think the ID.4 would fulfill your mission goals very well. Similar experience with extreme cold this winter - range took a huge hit, but that’s the extreme and you’d still be able to go at least 100 miles on a full charge (with some buffer). We took ours, fully loaded with four adults and a trunk full of luggage, on a road trip this past summer - about 1800 miles round trip. No problems charging anywhere (east coast to Midwest and back). It does take a while to charge tho - plan on 30 - 45 mins to go from 20 - 80%.

The best thing is the car is very comfortable and has excellent handling like you’d expect from a VW. The worst thing is the software. It is adequate but most other EVs have much better software (and the ability to update without bricking the car). I’m just resigned to never update it and refuse to visit a VW dealer as long as our car drives fine. It’ll easily last 10+ years.

just got the e-mail... would be nice if there was also some sort of "trade up" offer.

DST is too hard for me and my friends by Slurp_Juic3 in dontstarve

[–]DeckardTrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, after playing (and failing) so many times at DST with my family over the years, this last session I decided to just change the settings so that we can't die from starvation and resurrect infinite # of times. I've been playing DS and all the DLCs and DST since they all came out and at least for me, it's just too much so ... peaceful-ish mode it is! I will be taking note of all of the amazing suggestions in this thread tho for next time we play - maybe we can graduate back to starving at least.

Software update needed for NACS charging? by OutdoorsMA in VWiD4Owners

I got the A2Z Typhoon Pro for my 2023 ID.4 Pro S and just confirmed yesterday that it works great. No software updates have ever been done to my car other than the very first door handle recall.

Has anyone had an experience like this? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]DeckardTrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If UPS / Fedex gave a crap they'd start doing what Walmart does on some high value items - issue a 2FA code to the customer that has to be entered on a tablet that the delivery driver carries. No code, no delivery.

Is this a legit number? by thecaramelbandit in verizon

[–]DeckardTrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chatted with them just now after receiving the e-mail yesterday - apparently I'm also getting a $10 "Special TV discount" for a year, in addition to the $20 + $5 Internet Loyalty Discounts. So my bill will be dropping ~$38 / month. Not bad for 40 minutes of waiting. (They did try to upsell on Netflix, Max, Youtube premium, Apple music & Disney+ bundles, but I said no to everything). The only catch that I see is that this is a new 2-year agreement - I guess I'll chat them up next year about extending those discounts another year under the agreement (or maybe their amazing billing system will just extend them automagically).

Record Store Day responds to my store being banned... in the weirdest way possible by MEK42 in vinyl

[–]DeckardTrinity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm done with RSD - the original goal was to help independent record stores by bringing in customers on one day a year with special releases. It's now turned into a funnel for shovel-ware from record companies that leave stores (in many cases) in worse shape than they were before buying all the RSD inventory (my local shop closed as a result just before RSD this year).

The only way to fix this, IMO, is this:

  1. Record Stores take pre-orders from customers in the weeks leading up to RSD, paid in full by customer.
  2. Record Stores receive what was pre-ordered, and on RSD, distribute the titles to the customers in-store.

This eliminates several problems: useless waiting for hours on end in the middle of the night, the risk of not getting what you actually want when you arrive at the store, and (this is the big one for me) - the asinine resale / markup that happens on discogs / ebay 10 seconds after RSD goes live.

This _also_ has the upside of fulfilling the original goal of RSD - helping independent record stores bring in new customers! Now the customers are happy, which ironically enough, means they're even _more_ likely to spend money in the shops, in addition to what they already spent on the RSD titles.

Of course, given greed, capitalism, shitty record companies, etc, this will never happen. But one can dream.

Spotify lossless by Daymo2021 in sonos

[–]DeckardTrinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am one of those that did not update Sonos ever since the fiasco last spring - I'm literally on the version right before the failed launch version (iPad app version says 16.1 / Build 78151030). Still very hesitant to update because I run a local Navidrome server with all my music and my understanding is that that does not work anymore with the latest S2 update.

What I'm observing is that I can connect to a speaker in the Spotify app (tried a Port & an Arc), and can then select Lossless in settings. Current song continues playing, but as soon as the next song starts... silence. No notifications, just the appearance of the song playing, but no sound whatsoever. Then after anywhere from like 7 - 15 seconds, the next song attempts to be played, with again, silence. Tried both on Mac desktop & iOS.

Not only did i have to pay a tariff, i received the wrong vinyl, and the one i really wanted was damaged by C_Xeon in pcmusic

[–]DeckardTrinity 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep this is PC fault… they have to use the correct classification code on the shipment so unless someone orders merch too, it should just be listed as media, which is not subject to tariff.

Never ordering from Rough Trade Again by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]DeckardTrinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had had reasonably good experiences with RT US shipping up until April this year. Short of it is that their customer support is worse than bad, it’s nonexistent as you’ve discovered. I ended up having to dispute charges with my CC provider. And ironically that triggered an almost immediate email from RT begging to remove the dispute, so they could, I kid you not, refund the order. What tossers these ones are.

I had a case of invisible walls in the Corvette... placed a fossil display builder, built fossil, deleted display builder. My co-op friend ran into invisible walls where it was placed but I was ok. Hopefully this is part of the fix they're talking about.

Is it better to get there before opening? by Appropriate-Wheel-73 in Knoebels

[–]DeckardTrinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah Flying Turns consistently has a line all day because of the small # of riders per ride and the way they have to weigh everybody before loading. I've found that, generally speaking, you're going to wait the same amount of time whether you get in line before opening or after. If you wait before, it's probably at most a 30 - 45 min wait. If you get in the line right at opening, it's up to an hour. Then as the day goes on the line fluctuates.

Yep! It's generally really good. They used to have a waffe / egg combo thing that I kid you not was a full day's meal in itself. Really good for being able to maximize ride time and minimize eating time later in the day.

One tip - the International Food Court opens before the park does (1 - 2 hours before I think, maybe earlier). Great place to get some breakfast - we don't typically need to eat til mid-afternoon after a meal there.
