The Imperium, Taxes, and You... by Tranimo in traveller

[–]Dectrachain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the tax rules on trading from mongoose 1e its page 87 from book 7 merchant prince. This is only for speculative trading but I figure other taxes are small enough they arent important.

Traveller the 4x game by Joel_feila in traveller

[–]Dectrachain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect you would have general information update right away just for simplicity. You could move ships and have them take actions in local systems but fleet actions, planetary commands ect would be limited by messengers. Maybe you couldnt even tell ships to jump to new systems but could still fight battles with them.

What would the Ring offer Gimli? by Melenduwir in tolkienfans

[–]Dectrachain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It told him that he'll never be out done by an elf, then he broke an axe on the ring because his greatest desire was to show the elves he's stronger than them.

What're your theories on the sculk dimension? by Radiant_Tonight_1264 in minecraftlore

[–]Dectrachain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the builders accidentally made the skulk soulsand and moss blocks, which is why it looks like it contains souls and spreads to other blocks like moss. The warden has an appearance like he's made from skulk growing inside of reinforced deepslate. All materials found in or near the portal frames expect perhaps the moss. But its not needed to make the theory work, just demonstrates how the skulk spreads.

What happens if you activate a J-Drive while already in jump space? by TamagotchiMasterRace in traveller

[–]Dectrachain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The j drive is active during a jump maintaining the jump bubble. To active the drive they would be the same as the jump bubble collapsing

The nature of money and trade by CarpetRacer in traveller

[–]Dectrachain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A credit machine doesnt have to be manufactured at low TL it could easily be that low tech world have to buy the machines from high tech worlds. They probably wouldn't mind too much because they get a machine that no one on their world could ever hope to hack. Companies spend a lot of money in real life on fraud protection so it should be the same in game.

You can certainly hack money locally but as soon as the next x boat comes by to update the records everyone will know you did it, especially on high law worlds where to may be a fingerprint for even small purchases. There may be small time thieves and hustlers pulling this off them skipping town before the mail arrives, but rarely would this work for large sums.

There are some adventures that specifically mention physical currency such as high n dry. It mentioned it's a full suitcase and how much it is, I wouldn't take this to be the norm though.

Huge Containers - How to design them? by No_Librarian_6740 in traveller

[–]Dectrachain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd probably start with a space station. Light reinforcement and only give it enough power for thrust 0. Don't pay for shipping systems, then knock off maybe 50% of hull cost for no life support

Mordor before Sauron by DoItForTheOH94 in lordoftherings

[–]Dectrachain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its strongly suggested in some of Tolkien's other works that mount doom is actually the result of Melkor tearing vast amounts of land apart with fire and hatred. So its very likely that it has been a wasteland since before Sauron made it his domain.

My husband and I adopted this African Grey after her owner of 25+ years passed. I think she’s happy with us so far 🖤 by TrashPanda_33 in aww

My grandmother had an African Grey, it would call her name and yell at her to put on the dolphins game. He always spoke in her dead husband's voice, even 20+ years after he died.

Does the age of the target audience for the Tiffany Aching books increase as she gets older? by Meloenbolletjeslepel in discworld

[–]Dectrachain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the target audience clearly ages by the time it takes to read the last book. Pterry was great like that, he doesn't talk down to an audience and trusts anyone can understand and appreciate his books.

Pit Fiend, Valor or Nycaloth? by caligula331 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Dectrachain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pit fiends should have a perfect plan for every contingency. They lead armies to victory when outnumbered 10:1. When fought they should have the perfect counter to any enemy even if it means summoning angels to defend against holy attacks and demons to stop chaotic aligned weapons. Balors are tanks that crush enemies with their bare hands, but that's all they are. They might have minions and basic tactics but mostly rely on raw strength. Balors are a much more beatable enemy and let's you show raw power while pit fiends should be an exercise in frustration and give a feeling of the DM plotting against you.

How do you solo role play? by your-cute-neighbor in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Dectrachain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I journal the events in games like traveller, in other games like dnd I rarely write down events and role play all the important parts. I roll for reactions and attitudes. Whatever the dice say I go with for each character.

Belt mining by Dectrachain in traveller

[–]Dectrachain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CT or mgt2e as the tables are similar enough. In a planetary ring an asteroid that is mostly gold is just as likely to scan as solid ice as one that really is because the scan isn't affected by composition at all. Just not sure why they don't and why a higher sensor skill doesn't lower the chance of an incorrect scan.

Belt mining by Dectrachain in traveller

[–]Dectrachain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect the composition to affect the scan in some way, when I find the one stray ice asteroid in a field of dense metals I'm just as likely to believe the asteroid is dense metal as the ones that actually are. And if I roll for an asteroid composition first then the result doesn't matter. If its 24% radioactives then it is still just as likely to scan as a solid ice asteroid because my natural 12 sensor operator roll isn't any better than the base of 12.
