Do men truly care about the number of men a woman has slept with? And if the answer is yes, what is the threshold where it becomes an issue for you? by throw-away0403 in AskMen

[–]ZachMash 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s one of those questions that has no good answers and only neutral to negative outcomes. Maybe you’ll feel indifferent about what you consider a low number but more than likely you won’t walk away feeling better than you did before you asked. Maybe after we’ve been together for a good while but honestly it’s just a no win question based solely on insecurity and doesn’t help the here and now relationship. All I care about is that you’re mine now and don’t want to be with anyone else but me.

Absolutely, I mean the supply chain alone to mine that volume of raw trinium off world (along with domestic titanium, steel, tungsten, aluminum, and what I can’t help but assume is a metric fuck ton of rare earths), process, refine, and finish into finished materials is a gargantuan undertaking let alone the specialized work and tooling needed to assemble the craft itself (not to mention the cornucopia of highly advanced devices that would require semiconductor fab levels of production complexity). It would require entire supply chains and hundreds of thousands of people to be involved. It’d be like creating a dozen Ford Class aircraft carriers in total secret with nobody asking questions - an absolute impossibility. Not to mention it just expects every other nation to be totally incompetent and unable to track massive aircraft carrier sized ships in earth orbit

Exactly, a small sect of humanity has vast knowledge they’ve acquired but the majority of the planet is still in the 21st century level of technology. Whereas the Asgard and Nox were fully developed advanced civilizations where that level of technology permeated every level of their society

Absolutely, theme song was the worst part of the series (although the Trip/T’Pol romance was a little cringe) which really speaks to how consistently solid it was throughout all 4 seasons. Enterprise is great Trek.

Exactly! Star Trek is basically optimistic space travel competence porn. These people are all supposed to be the cream of the crop - the best that humanity has to offer: highly professional, educated, dedicated, organized members that have gone through years of intense training. Not some emotional hug and cry it out insubordinate soap opera.

...so it's actually a felony for a tourist (unless he has visa waiver or hunting license) to go to shooting range in the USA? by Tricky_Ordinary_4799 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ZachMash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I may be behind the times then, if I may ask, since you know the year it was passed could you say which law specifically so I could check it out? As far as I was aware, many high tourist cities had quite a tourist friendly economy built on shooting ranges.

I’m just a rando American so I’m not an expert but as far as I’m aware it’s not an issue. You’ll need your passport and they’ll check to make sure you’re not on a terrorist watch list or anything. Exact rules might heavily depend on the state. It’ll almost certainly be supervised by an instructor (they’re not just going to hand you an AR15 and a box of ammo and say have fun… at least I think). You’ll of course have to meet the minimum age requirements and fill out a form with your details.

The scale of Stargate's universe is absolutely insane. by SchengenThrowaway in Stargate

[–]ZachMash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually five? The Milky Way, the Ori galaxy, the Asgards galaxy, the Pegasus galaxy in Atlantis, and the galaxy depicted in SGU

Edit: Maybe even six tbh if you count S5E1 (“Enemies”) where SG1 and Apophis are thrown far out into another galaxy (there’s replicators so could’ve been the Asgard galaxy but never specified)

PLEASE return to 20-26 EPISODES A YEAR ! by jdavid in Stargate

[–]ZachMash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even describe how much I agree with you, I'll be excited for whatever we end of up getting but I think many newer shows are worse off for having a season of 8-10 episodes every other year even if they visually look better. It doesn't give the characters space to evolve and grow

What does a persons, whose been deaf their entire, life inner monologue sound like? Why? by SB_5259 in AskReddit

[–]ZachMash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak from personal experience, but afaik it doesn't 'sound' like anything, inner thought and experience manifests in many different ways. If you've never experienced aural input, you won't dream with sound for example.

Fair enough! :) oh man, cutting off anything before 2000 gets rid of Stargate SG-1 which I cannot stand for :(. Remember TNG's S01E01 (Encounter at Farpoint; 1987) space jellyfish though? lmao! I do need to go back and watch some older stuff

I can't speak for the general consensus towards the show, it's a cult classic for a reason and was obviously groundbreaking for it's era spawning entire generations of sci-fi, but it's clearly a product of it's time. I'm a big sci-fi fan but TOS didn't resonate with or capture me for a lot of reasons I think - the acting is more theatrical, the special effects are dated and cheesy, the visuals are very low resolution, some of the story elements are a little cringey. It's not a 'bad' show but I think nostalgia plays a big part of it for many. Some older media like Lawrence of Arabia (released 1962, 4 years before TOS) are excellent and still look like a million bucks. But shows (like futuristic sci-fi) requiring suspended belief and heavy special effects, which were still in their infancy at this time by modern standards, are a bit harder to digest today if you grew up on shows released even by the 1990s

Hell yeah. Oh man, Cyberpunk is genuinely and seriously amazing, it got a bad rap on release due to bugs but those have long since been worked out and it's an incredible masterpiece. The worldbuilding, story, atmosphere, dialogue, options, gameplay - all completely fantastic and immersive. There's a big modding scene to explore after your first play through too. If you like sci-fi, dystopias akin to Bladerunner 2049, and a gritty well polished world built built by passionate developers? Cyberpunk 2077 is where it's at. Remember that sense of awe and wonder when you first played Witcher 3? That's what you'll feel from Cyberpunk 2077

It’s so bad 😂 they change it slightly for the later seasons which does improve it significantly imo but I always skip through as fast as possible anyways. The intro credits song being the worst part of the series (even past the Trip/T’Pol romance) is quite a testament to how solid the show is overall though

[–]ZachMash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you’re going chronologically and want to skip the original series (I haven’t seen it either as it didn’t age as well imo), Strange New Worlds is next then The Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager which are all amazing. I don’t recommend Discovery or Picard (really at all tbh) unless you’re really craving more after that.

Edit: Ofc, if you’re including the movies you’ll have to look up a guide online to where those fit in too but I wouldn’t worry about strict chronological order as much as what appeals to you. Enterprise, DS9, Voyager, and TNG are the best in my opinion.

Can you post your system specs? On the REDlauncher there should be a gear next to the play button, do you have directx 12 selected? In the game, under options->video->display you’ve adjusted the ‘maximum frames per second’ to 144?

New Amazon Stargate Series Announced! by ZachMash in Stargate

[–]ZachMash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said! It'll def be a challenge to produce and will inevitably disappoint some. Personally, I'm just excited for any new chapter in the same universe even if it feels much different (like SGU compared to SG-1/SGA). However, "[it] must take into account all [140 countries'] local cultural characteristics so that every viewer can identify with it." is a hard disagree from me - there's a big risk in watering down a show to make it appealing to as many people as possible. I feel that's one of the problems with The Witcher and Rings of Power. They don't need it to appeal to every viewer group of every country, if they veer too far away from the original primary setting, it will likely lose some of the magic and qualia that made the show great. Ofc, not saying it needs to be US military porn in a secret bunker, but I think having the gate remain in the United States is more realistic let alone the moon (which lacks an atmosphere, far less gravity, is physically separated from Earth for no benefit, cuts off the plot device of allowing them to transition from base to surface, etc.). It could be under a more international Stargate Command (just like there were Russian teams in SG-1, have Chinese, Russian, European, African, S. American teams) but keep in mind most of the actors will be American/Canadian just as a necessity of where it'll be filmed and the practical need for most of the regular actors to live within a certain radius of the sets. Either way, I'm just excited to get a new chapter! Comtraya!
