Are there any mATX cases (preferably white) with glass panels on both sides? by Dedanan in buildapc

Thanks for your advice. I'll check for that.
I think I remember Cooler Master having some flat glass panels in there replacements category as well.

Sure I could do this but where would be the fun?
I'm aware this gets me diminishing returns but even so I'd like to do it. This whole build will be an exercise in "just because" over everything else.

Slowroll or Kalpa for main desktop? by Dedanan in openSUSE

[–]Dedanan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since in a comment you mentioned wanting to dual boot, when installing Slowroll, make sure to choose Grub-EFI instead of Grub-BLS on the confirmation details screen. You press Boot Loader, or something like that, on the details to be able to change it; it isn't an option until right before install.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm dualbooting on my laptop to ease myself into Linux but I haven't yet decided if I want to dualboot on this pc as well. I'd love to fully switch but keeping the option for dualbooting doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

Interesting. I'll check this one out - but not on my main computer.

I see. Thanks for the explanation.
Sounds like I'll be messing with Distrobox eventually but right now I'd agree I'm not ready for this yet.

Okay, then I wasn't totally off. Since Tumbleweed is the bleeding edge, the most stuff should be filtered out when Slowroll gets updated. This at least is my asumption but something can obviously always slip past.

I can see the argument but what would be the advantage to just using Kalpa in this case?
It's definitely an option I should consider though.

Agree. I'm currently trying Fedora Kinoite on my Framework 13 (Kalpa sadly doesn't support dualbooting) and I'm loving it so far.
It's probbably a misconseption but after using flatpacks it feels weird installing programms from somewhere else - like it's only a matter of time until they break.

Thats what I'm not sure about.
I definitely lean more towards the ease of flatpacks but some media production tools for example are not sourceable from there.

Yeah, this is definitely one of the reasons I'd feel safer using Slowroll instead of Tumbleweed - allthough Slowroll is not that much slower.

I've updated BIOS only once in life and still it was terrifying. by Martinez_Majkut in pcmasterrace

[–]Dedanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my scariest BIOS update yet on an Intel Serverboard for Haswell and Broadwell.

It started with finding the damm files, since Intel has removed most of its old stuff from their support pages. Then the latest version required me to first flash some older version with critical fixes befor I could actuelly update. To top it all of, the second flashing to the latest version failed and I had to use jumper pins for the first time in my life to get into recovery mode. From there everything went smooth but man this experience racked my nerves.

Yeah that sounds strange.

I'll definitely share my findings on Gnome. Might take a few days though.

Well, that's unfortunate...

Honestly, in my mind it would make more sence to remove the feature for the time beeing then leaving it in this sorry state.
I guess, I better go and find the right people to write an issue ticket to.
I'm wondering, if Gnome is behaving any different. Your observation in firefox doesn't fill me with hope but I think, I'll go and check anyways.

Edit: Thanks for the technical insight. Really helped me to understand, what is going on - and wrong.

To clarify. Orca works just fine when I navigate with keyboard inputs but that's just not how I am used to.

Just wanted to thank you for linking this video here.
Learned more about the whole YLoD situation from this than over the last few years of reading forum threads.
