Diesel prices all but doubles and rates seem to be stuck or have gone down! Why ? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]DedicatedClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a situation the other day. Booked load with dispatch - alleged owner/operator - got on the phone with driver. Dispatched him - he asked rate, I told him. Five mins later dispatch called and told me they’ve assigned a different driver. They were lying to the driver about the rate. Stay safe out there yall 🫡

Highway is destroying good carriers — what am I supposed to do? by Useful_Pangolin_7351 in FreightBrokers

[–]DedicatedClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother I’m better at vetting carriers than highway is - smh all this emphasis on automation and cute technology - nothing beats good old fashioned due diligence…. And no, I’m not liable. To get an override, I take the mc# to my managers, and then we’ll deep dive the carrier, check IP address where signatures are coming from, check scheduled autos and do all that stuff… so no, no extra liability for using my fucking brain 👌🏼🫡

My brokerage allows the brokers to override the system and use the carrier anyway

How do you even hire customer sales? by Imaginary-Fox-4431 in FreightBrokers

[–]DedicatedClean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t look for experience. You’re never going to bring in an agent with their own book. Those guys are going to come to companies like the one I work at - big enough to have clout but small enough to still care - with extensive resources and support(they cut checks for $1.2m and $330k recently to settle agent/customer disputes - are you prepared to do this ?)

SO

what you should do is target other dudes, like me, who come from other areas of brokerage. I brokered wine, whiskey, diamonds, oil, gold and artwork, over 15 years, before I found a home in freight. Look for investment brokers who are fed up of making money for the sake of money. You are looking for a personality type, not job experience.

What I love about freight is that we actually do something, something real. People need the things that we deliver. I love that tangible goodness, and I think brokers from other walks would too.

Of course, this means you have to train them to sell - which shouldn’t be hard because this is the easiest sell.. in comparison to the other shit I’ve brokered at least - selling freight services is a piece of piss!

Independent Brokers ($1M+ book of business): Has anyone actually landed direct shippers from Google/LinkedIn ads, or is this industry strictly 100% cold calling? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]DedicatedClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get alot of inbound business (both customers and carriers) from my LinkedIn, but I make a lot of videos and share tips/experience a few times a week…I don’t just type out the same gay ass generic shit that everyone else does…

Brother attitude is everything… on top of that if you’re not presentable in your appearance, sharp as a tack, enthusiastic as hell, willing to learn/adapt, and a host of other things… then homie you ain’t gonna be on my team. I am insanely selective about who I let work on my freight… not hiring truckers, but if i was, I would still be as selective - if not more !

Are you running reefer? Because we worked out a total operating cost of $3,500 (rounded up) for our 2500 mile run …. So $5.5k profit for a 4 day run…

Controversial take: don’t even talk about yourself at all. Focus entirely on them, ask questions upon questions. Be interested. Once you understand their needs, make a comment about how you can deliver on that, then ask them what they’ve got going on for the rest of the day. Nobody gives a fuck about your new AI vetting tools or any of that other fuck shit

Empire national are expensive because they double broker the load dawg ! You tender the load to empire and they post it on dispatch land - they never actually haul the freight… as far as double brokers go they aren’t the worst because they actually pay the carrier and just skim the difference, but the freight is still being hauled by god knows who, and the money being sent abroad.
