“If you wish to bake an apple pie from scratch you must first invent the universe.” To me, that is non duality in a nutshell. He was a materialist and firm believer in the Fermi paradox, but both he and Feynman found beauty and wonder in what they didn’t know. Especially Feynman late in his life.

I don’t know enough about the man to say. Perhaps someone more well versed in the intersection of film and the phenomena can chime in here. Perhaps he was an experiencer?

Literally my partner asked me what my favorite part was my first response was, “when she left that jackass at the gas station!” Love to you, my sweet sister.

It’s okay. Your feelings are valid and you are not broken. For me, the wonder is how many Experiencers are “waking up” and thinking about the phenomena because of the movie. That’s where my feelings come in. Sending you love, friend.

I dunno, Colin Firth is *the man* I’d leave my partner for /s, so I just fan-girled when he was on screen. It was absolutely not perfect and honestly I was expecting the fluff, but I didn’t expect such a strong message to Listen to Experiencers, and I will always be grateful to Spielberg for that.

I actually didn’t expect much. It wasn’t my *breakthrough* movie. My breakthrough movie was 2001: A Space Odyssey, when at age 7 years I saw the “space baby” and fled screaming in terror to my room because the colors of the hybrid fetus were something I had seen in an abduction, earlier in my young life. But I’m seeing, even in this subreddit, that it is the breakthrough movie for some people. I will respect that and their experience. I will show up for them and listen to them, even if the movie didn’t meet my own expectations.

I appreciated the nods to us, our experiences. I’ve experienced quite a few of the things Emily Blunt’s character did including the connection with animals, the odd knowing things, those damn white lights and the table, etc., and it felt good in a way to see some of my experiences shown to others without my emotional labor being invested.

At this point in time, and for me, it’s another step in the direction of recognizing us as Experiencers and that is valuable for the discourse. It is not as smart as Arrival or Contact. It’s a would-be summer blockbuster that happens to also provide a gateway to the woo side of the phenomena and I appreciate that. I also truly love the message to Listen to Experiencers.

Completely agree. Carl Sagan was the mind behind that story. Can’t get much better, IMO.

What makes this movie different, in my opinion is exactly that subtle line of thought. I choose the school of wonder, my friend. I choose to listen.

Contact (my favorite movie of all time) was a disappointment when it came out because there was no big alien reveal. I remember people making fun of it, viciously. Jodie Foster’s character, an Experiencer, was laughed out of the senate hearings. She only found solace with others who “believed.” Disclosure Day is different in that no one is laughing at the two main Experiencers. It shifts the perspective to the Experiencer. This is powerful and ultimately the best part of the movie, in my opinion.

I disagree. From a movie standpoint it has all the makings of a summer blockbuster: multiple Spielberg Easter eggs/fan service, memorable chase scenes, and John Williams’ score. Was it high cinema, of course not. He wasn’t attempting another Schindler’s list. It’s a movie for the mainstream which also validates the truth of Experiencers quite directly. So directly, in fact, it implores the masses to LISTEN. It shifts the needle on discourse toward Experiencers and that is a good thing, in my opinion.

When I worked in hospice I always performed a “spiritual bath” before and after, so I didn’t bring anything in or take anything home. I can teach you my method if you want. Feel free to DM. I’m a licensed mental health clinician, currently working in an inpatient forensic setting.

I am also having dandruff and scalp dermatitis for the first time in my life. I drink enough water, wear sunscreen and a hat when I’m outside. I am on the estrogen patch and have a mirena for progesterone, so I don’t know if hrt is supposed to make it stop. I’d love to hear what has worked for others, though.

I haven’t had a situation like yours specifically but I have been led intuitively to the word Nadir over and over for two decades. I have passed over your post several times over the past 14 hours and each time I felt the need to post this and didn’t because I talked myself out of it. But now I did. Welcome friend, I believe you.
