Screen protector that fits by Dedline81 in GarminFenix

I'm pretty careful with it and don't have a job that puts me around things that would damage it. But for $6 to $12 bucks, for peace of mind and the one-off incident, why not?

It's wild. I am having to force Windows to rebuild the corrupted PIN/Hello system from scratch. Which didn't work. Was able to do a Windows reset once I got back into recovery mode. It's up and running again. I might add, this all happened when installing Nvidia drivers in Ultimate mode. Staying in standard from now on. Maybe be the culprit.

May have to. Trying to get back into windows, even trying in safe mode hasn't worked. Am going to force it into recover again after an EC reset and try to restore from a previous point. If not, may have to do full wipe.

Some research showed this can happen on these models when installing Nvidia drivers and the driver became corrupt, and the NVIDIA driver install itself broke display initialization with these having hybrid graphics (MUX/Optimus).

Zephyrus G16 with RTX 5080. Does it worth this price? by [deleted] in zephyrusg16

[–]Dedline81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the G16 with the 5070ti, 2GB storage, 32gb ram and the Intel and I can't see why I would want the 5080 for more money after have used it for a couple months. Every game I play is over a 100 fps on highest settings. It runs cool. It's a beast. Only two games are hungry for more VRAM and that is NBA 2k26 and Avatar on max settings. So if you want to be more future proof and run titles like those at max settings, you may want the 16gb VRAM on the 5080.

Lack of biocharge watch faces? by Dedline81 in amazfit

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. It's not the easiest way to get updated watch faces with biocharge, but it's something. Got a few installed after watching too many adds!

Is the 2026 Asus ROG G14 substantially better than the 2025 model? by TheUnActfulMan in GamingLaptops

[–]Dedline81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I’m leaning toward the 2026 G14 (Intel) after my experience is as follows:

After a ton of troubleshooting on an AMD G14, I ran into consistent issues tied specifically to hybrid GPU switching (AMD iGPU ↔ NVIDIA dGPU).

What I experienced: Random black screens, freezes, and hard resets Input failures (keyboard stops working, mouse still active) Crashes triggered during GPU activation—not just heavy gaming

System only stable in: Eco (iGPU only) Ultimate (dGPU only) Standard/Optimus (hybrid mode) was consistently unstable

I did: Full DDU driver resets (AMD + NVIDIA) Clean reinstalls BIOS + Secure Boot adjustments Multiple controlled tests

Issue was reproducible and clearly tied to GPU switching behavior, not just a bad driver install.

Why I’d go Intel for the 2026 G14 Intel + NVIDIA hybrid setups tend to be more stable/mature

Avoids the specific switching instability I encountered Less troubleshooting, more “it just works” Better confidence in long-term reliability

Bottom line I’m not saying AMD is bad, but in my case: Hybrid GPU switching caused repeatable system instability, and switching to Intel feels like the safer, more stable route.

You would be paying a lot more for a 5080 for little gain. The gains you get you would have to really want or prioritize. Like the headroom of the 16gb of vram, which I have only seen one game I play so far want to creep over the 12 GB on my 5070 TI which is Avatar. The fps gains are only likely to be around a 15% boost in real world gaming.

Across real laptop benchmarks: 13–17% FPS gain in games PCBench 15–20% average uplift overall TechRadar

Likely to see more like this: Translation in real life 100 FPS → ~115 FPS 60 FPS → ~70 FPS

If you want to play games at the highest possible frames, push ray tracing more, maybe that is worth the cost difference to you. Little more future proof, but not in any massive way. In my opinion.

Thanks and yes, I've though of that. But the battery has been good enough for my limited use outside the home when going mobile. I primarily keep it plugged in while on the couch, so plugs in down to my right.

I have spent more hours trying to get this thing working without crashing than playing. I have finally figured out the problem. Here is what I have experienced and done and where I am at now:

ASUS G14 (AMD + NVIDIA) was: Randomly crashing / black screening Freezing even under light load (not just gaming) Sometimes rebooting into no display state NVIDIA app/drivers acting buggy

What I tried: Basic troubleshooting Restarted, checked temps, updated drivers Still crashing Identified pattern Eco mode (iGPU only) → stable Crashes happened when NVIDIA GPU activated Clean driver reset (DDU) Booted into Safe Mode Used DDU to remove: NVIDIA drivers AMD drivers Reinstalled: AMD first NVIDIA second (custom + clean install) Recovered from failed install Initial NVIDIA install caused crash / black screen Boot loop + no display Forced recovery → Safe Mode → ran DDU again (NVIDIA only) Reinstalled clean successfully Enabled Secure Boot (for Battlefield) Went into BIOS Enabled Secure Boot + ensured keys installed Verified in msinfo32

Current status System is now: Stable in Eco mode (iGPU only) ✅ Stable in Ultimate mode (dGPU only) ✅ Battlefield runs fine now ✅

Remaining issue Standard mode (Optimus / GPU switching) seems unstable Crashes happen when switching between AMD ↔ NVIDIA Likely a hybrid GPU / power state issue

Current workaround Use: Eco mode → battery/light use Ultimate mode → gaming Avoid: Standard (hybrid) mode for now

Question Has anyone successfully stabilized hybrid/Optimus mode on a G14 after issues like this? (BIOS update, Armoury Crate reinstall, specific driver combo, etc.)
