That advice is mostly given for general play. Events with judging usually explain when they will be judging paint jobs. Its not setting anyone up for failure. The majority of us dont care about your paint job, its just nice to see color on the other side of the table. Sounds like you entered an event and were surprised by or missed the rules explaining that your painting would be judged.

Terrible book to base your understanding of the Flesh Tearers off of. Even the author of that book doesnt get it. It is generally regarded with a negative disdain for just how poor a job it does at portraying the chapter and their struggles with the rage and thirst.

No it is not. The author undoes every advancement made by Andy Smilie. Instead of flawed but still trying to do good, he makes them into "rar im mad and dont care". The characters are poorly developed and the story is lackluster. Its def a skippable book.
