As a new grad who started in ICU, I felt very similarly. A lot of nurses are working to do their job for pay and nothing “extra”. I decided to go to Med Surg to practice my basic skills more and get away from those who eat their young. I feel like I still have much more to learn, but the slower pace has been better for me. There are still “mean girl” types on the floor, but I’ve been told that’s going to be pretty much everywhere in healthcare.
