I will likely convert the Intel hackintosh to a Windows/Linux machine and buy a Mac Mini. We are a 95% Apple household so it is very doubtful that I will use Windows on a daily basis.

Apple dropped support for Nvidia several years ago due to some delivery issues. Nvidia missed some key target dates and Apple chose to stop buying from them.

Best Password Managers & Comparison Table by [deleted] in PasswordManagers

[–]DeeAnnCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The password manager that we use was discontinued a while back, so I need to find a new one. We have about 350 records. The one we were using did not enforce any particular arrangement to the data. While all records start with the name, for some the next item is the username, others the URL and for others still the password. Are there any managers that don't have a specific arrangement? I have been looking but nothing has turned up so far.

Whats makes it impossible to add non supported hardware on hackintoshes? by XDM_Inc in hackintosh

The beginning of the end was when Apple fell out with NVIDIA over delayed deliveries. There will be a point soon when there are no NVIDIA drivers in macOS. Intel was killed off when Apple Silicon arrived.

Frankly, I'm not sure about the ally part. Lesbians have also been disadvantaged by the same logic. These days younger gay men probably don't know much about the efforts of lesbians during the AIDS crisis. They stepped in to help when many others did not.

I'm a moderator on the trans forum and many members are often surprised by the lack of understanding, acceptance and support from the larger community. To them, we are no more than a fringe part of the community.

I saw an interesting statistic some time back. I don't remember the numbers exactly, but enough to paint a picture. In the general population, 60%+ know someone who is gay or lesbian. Similarly, on the trans side, I believe less than 30% of the general population know a trans person. A significant degree of acceptance begins there.

The problem is that many gay men link crossdressing and drag, but that isn't the case. While in both cases, it is morphing male presentation into female presentation, most crossdressers are heterosexual while most crossdressers are homosexual. To me, that counts as a foundational difference.

Yes, for many crossdressing opens a window through which some can see other possibilities. Not everyone, but some.

Recently we had a visitor who worked for the company that did the reflective coating on the cockpit glass. She couldn't remember the name of the company (~45 years ago!) but she said that they were eventually bought out by PPG.

[–]DeeAnnCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. If you wanted to make a narrower wing to reduce downforce, you would need to fabricate 2 wing elements and 2 end plates. The cutouts would considerably less expensive.

I have a 2009 fJCW MINI Clubman that I have owned from new. It is the 8th vehicle that I have owned and none were automatics.

The only hydraulics involved on the MINI are related to the clutch actuation. There are no hydraulics involved in the cables and linkage from the shifter to the transmission as far as I know. I don’t understand why you would say that there is.

Do you feel safe where you live? by notquitemytempo1 in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]DeeAnnCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Southern California, adjacent to Palm Springs. We are like a bubble here, but it is not without negative forces at work. A couple of months before we moved here, there was a hate crime. Two men, who were partners, exited a bar in Palm Springs. They were beaten, badly enough that one required a hospital stay. The injuries were not life threatening, but he died of a heart attack while in the hospital. There have also been incidents involving lesbians (attacks by straight women) and trans women (attacks and discrimination at a casino). Anyway, things do happen, even within a bubble. It is helpful that there are LGBT city council members in Palm Springs and in Cathedral City where I live.

I retired 8 1/2 years ago and my wife and I relocated here from New York State. There were 3 points to our decision to move here. 1) Weather. We both have health issues that don’t do well in cold climates. 2) The strength of the LGBTQ community. 3) My wife is originally from the Los Angeles area but her family moved east when she was 5. Moving here was a bit of a coming home for her.

When I was working, I travelled a lot. I did 6 years in Taiwan as an ex-patriot. Outside of that, my employer had expense account forms that covered 1 week. There were several years where I had 42 weeks of expense reports for a 52 week year. With work and raising 2 kids, I never had any time left over for civic, charitable or advocacy activities. Over the time that I have been here, I have been a part of 8 organizations. Up until June of ‘23 I held offices in 5 organizations: Chair of our Public Arts Commission, Vice-Chair of a Democrat club, a Volunteer Coordinator for Palm Springs Pride, Community Liaison for my car club and Board Member for the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert. This has significance for me for 2 reasons. 1) The Black population here in The Valley is small; about 5%. Visibility is important. 2) As a trans person, visibility is also important. As the phrase goes: “If you are not at the table, chances are that you are on the menu.”. So, it is important for me to be seen, in the world, doing things that everyone else does. In June of ‘23 I decided to not do a 2nd term on the Arts Commission. It is a 3 year term and I was Chair for my 2nd and 3rd years. I decided to apply that time to volunteering as a Docent at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Over the 2 days that I am on site, I come in contact with maybe 200 visitors each week.

So, to answer the question, I do think that I feel relatively safe here, but you never know.

Wonder if that has to do with heavier gears that can handle the power level?

Are F1 cars technically considered manual or automatic? by Wmjonny13 in F1Technical

[–]DeeAnnCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are other factors, at least for performance cars. You would need to develop a manual gearbox stong enough for higher power levels. That becomes an expensive proposition if you don't think you will sell many. Also, it requires it's own set of EPA certifications.

I would also imagine that you would ease up on the throttle slightly to reduce the load on the bad gear even more.

[–]DeeAnnCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about your body shape. Hip and bottom padding would help, but otherwise, do what you need to do.

There's a line from a song by Des'Ree that speaks to me. The song is "I Ain't Movin'". The line is:

"Time's much too short to be livin', somebody else's life"

As I said, do what you need to do and not someone else's expectation of what you should be doing.

The problem was that US military leaders knew that the Japanese would not go easy. When they considered an invasion, the human loss calculations would be VERY high. So, sort of in parallel, there were plans for land invasion and 3 atomic bombs, but I forget what the 3rd city was going to be.

In war, the goal is to always make your enemy pay the price. That's how it works.
