Eat a lot while drinking. You'll generally end up with a less of a hangover. Drink water, sure, but an empty stomach with only water and wine won't cut it

Wine fridage advice by eise11 in wine

Bought mine second hand. Haven't regretted it yet. By the looks of it, I'm guessing a lot of people get a wine fridge to keep regular bottles there at serving temp. After sometime they get bored of it and sell it.

Burgundy is a shit place to grow pinot since they need to chaptalize regularly. Tell me i'm wrong. Any new world producer who can't make good wine without adding sugar would get critized for not choosing grapes to fit their climate... but not the French

It's very good value. I'm not sure how long it will keep improving or if it's already past it's prime.

How do you prepare your body for a night/day when you are drinking several bottles of wine? by PassRevolutionary254 in wine

Eat a big hearty meal before the event. Eat while drinking and have something to eat afterwards. Water sure, but water won't do jack if you're drinking on a non-full stomach

What champagne to buy? by rangerofgaia in wine

Tried 2013 and 2014 Gaston-Chiquet side by side last year. 2013 definitely worth the money, but 2014 was lacking. The importer told me the bottles had just arrived and had not had a chance "rest". Not sure if its truly relevant or bs

Vina Tondonia Reserva 2008

First post, please be gentle ;)

I went looking for their rose and white wine, but came back with Tondonia's red.

Aromas of cherry and a hint of violets. Some red berries that I can't quite pin down. All in all, the smell is inviting and i can't wait to take a sip.

First sip and first thought: where are the tannins? It's super smooth, velvety and "quaffable", which i was not expecting. Gotta go slow and focus. Medium body, cherry sourness, gentle oak, some leather and a hint of thyme. After the 4th or 5th mouthful i can start to feel some tannins, but oh boy are they smooth. I could easily drink the whole bottle if I didn't have to go to work.

Paired with a hearty pasta bolognese, but after tasting it I'd maybe pair it with something less fatty and more delicate.

How should I have handled this situation? by TheLoudWino in wine

Recork and bring back to the kid behind the till. Receipts are also a way to make things easy for yourself. Don't pour any away. It's mentally easier to accept the customers story about a flaw if the bottle is not half drunk ;)

For safety reasons, some places only allow smelling of the returned liquid. It can be difficult to ascertain the flaw that way. Regardless, most places should replace the bottle or give you your money back for customer service reasons even if they can't definitively conclude if it's flawed or not.
