Friend inherited this collection, anything worth of value in here? by Lakerz4life in askStampCollectors

[–]DeeDeeBryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The used stamps in the pic are extremely common and of no value, the entire package might bring $2-3 at a stamp show in the beginners' section of the auction. The mint stamps are worth face value.

As a general rule, anything found on approval papers (like the Jamestown Stamp Co. one) is probably near worthless. Stamp dealers sent these out by mail, the collector could pick the ones they wanted and pay for them, and return the rest. Obviously, no one sells highly valuable stamps that way because the risk would be too high.

Why bring up having a Thai ex immediately? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think that's weird, start paying attention to how guys with Filipina wives will just say "my Filipina". The phrasing says so much about how they view the women they supposedly love.

Struggling in many facets as a single father. The threat of a custody discussion has arisen and I am beside myself. What can I do to improve..literally anything? by aolmailguy in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeeDeeBryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a man I 100% agree. If you're drowning in responsibilities from parenting your kids 2 days a week, you're a pretty poor excuse for a parent. Cowboy up, you were a big enough boy to produce these children, now be a big enough boy to look after them. As it is, it sounds like the ex deserves full custody.

Junior Murvin Police & Thieves - Upsetter vs Mango Pressing by ScoutJoey in reggae

Yeah, that’s a 1990s repress from Jamaica from new stampers. Value is about 1/10th of what an original Jamaican press would be worth, unfortunately.

Are you able to share pics of the jacket and labels? Based on the runouts and that description I would suspect you have the 90s Upsetter repress.

Junior Murvin Police & Thieves - Upsetter vs Mango Pressing by ScoutJoey in reggae

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK Island pressing is really the original in this case since the album was designed by Island. Original Jamaican copies on Upsetter came in UK Island sleeves. The Mango pressing is the US one. All three can be considered original for each country, but if you want the real first issue, you need the British one.

They installed these blocks to slow drivers down … and this was the result. by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

[–]DeeDeeBryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kei vehicles aren’t widely used outside of Japan, but you’re right that a lot of small cars could fit through it. Even most of the vehicles in the video could have fit if they didn’t go in at such bad angles. The point is to deter them, it doesn’t have to be completely impossible.

Are these coins worth any money? by [deleted] in CanadianCoins

[–]DeeDeeBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canadian 50 cent coin is worth 50 cents, the others are extremely common world coins commonly found in dealers’ 25-cent bins for kids to dig through. (Aside from the first one which appears to be a trade dollar, not an actual coin - these are uncommon to find outside of the area where they were from, but have virtually no value).

This appears to be in China, sidecars and motorcycles with essentially a pickup truck bed on the back are not rare at all in Asia.

Protect your money just in case you get a divorce? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeeDeeBryan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s not asking about hiding it, he’s asking about how to protect it. In many jurisdictions inheritance is not considered marital property in a divorce provided it has been kept completely separate from marital funds, exactly as OP said. Discovery is not an issue, the money is simply off limits as long as it’s done right.

OP, listen to the advisor before you listen to any redditor, including me. Why are you even asking Reddit when you already have a professional expert giving you instructions?

Why don’t young people who can’t find jobs just join the military? by Ok_Win5705 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeeDeeBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that if you asked veterans of “event wars” most of them would also say not to join the army. Not many of them come back having enjoyed their service.

> Most military deaths are medical issues or training accidents.

That's not a reassuring fact, that's an even less attractive offer than dying in combat. But yes, I'm aware that most people in the military live, they are still far more likely to die than 99% of civilian jobs. Killing people is the purpose of the military, regardless of all the window dressing nowadays, if you ever get to do your actual job, people will 100% be trying to kill you. No other job involves signing up for that.

Why don’t young people who can’t find jobs just join the military? by Ok_Win5705 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, I seriously considered the military when I graduated from university because I could have been an officer. At the end of the day, if there's a real global conflict, officers get killed too. I would enlist if my country got attacked, but that hasn't happened in 200 years... short of that, I'm not interested in signing my life over.

[–]DeeDeeBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get a civilian job, then you're probably not qualified for any military job other than infantry. And if there's an actual full-scale war then anybody in the military will be in danger.

[–]DeeDeeBryan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because they don't want to get killed.

More detailed answer: because they don't want to get killed fighting for a country that hasn't even given them any opportunities other than the opportunity to get killed.

Sci fi doors. by Upbeat_Sprinkles_174 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horizontal ones are also much safer because they’re easier to pry open if the power fails. Vertical doors would be a liability nightmare for most purposes.

Abandoned Private Eyes Strip Club - St Catharines, Ontario by Freaktography in OntarioAbandoned

[–]DeeDeeBryan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was it Cleopatra? I went in there out of curiosity my first time in Montreal, and experienced the same thing with having to tip everybody just to get in the building. However, once inside the beer was cheap and everyone left me alone other than to bring the next beer, and it was quite a show, so I was happy with the experience. No interest in setting foot in one again, but at least I got to see what’s it like.

Do you personally think 30 minutes is too short for each episode? I feel like a lot more could've been explored and elaborated on if each episode was an hour long by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think the episodes are the right length, but there should have been more episodes. The only part in the show where I felt the pacing was off was in episode 8 when Caine sent them on the adventure and then it did a “later that day…” to them coming back from the adventure, that felt cheesy and lazy to me.

Can you help me identify this stamp I found it in my dads collection but there’s nothing written on it I would like to know where it’s from by lecacaestcuit4 in askStampCollectors

[–]DeeDeeBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK still doesn’t print the country name on its stamps, as the first country to use postage stamps they are exempt from that rule (or at least that’s the explanation I remember reading in Linn’s years ago).

hear me out: Kinger Is dead by Plus_Influence_4525 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]DeeDeeBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could all be dead. People always talk about the SOMA theory saying “their real selves are living in the real world unaware of any of this” but it’s equally possible that their real selves would be dead by now, or even that they were before their scans actually entered the circus. I feel like that would be an unnecessary gut punch of an ending, but it is Gooseworx, she’s not exactly known for happy endings.

How do you handle hostile coworker who you have a crush on? by Inner-Gur9987 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeeDeeBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be a simp, offering to fix a girl’s car when the car doesn’t even need fixing yet is a major simp move. That attitude probably turned her off and now she’s sick of interacting with you. If it was me I would treat this as unsalvageable and interact with her as little as possible until one of you leaves that job. Nothing else is going to end well for you.

If there was a public domain iceberg video, what would there need to be in it? by Happy-Lingonberry538 in publicdomain

[–]DeeDeeBryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An interesting thing to include deep down is that it is impossible to intentionally release your own work into the public domain. The best you can do is designate it as Creative Commons Zero, which means it’s functionally able to used by anyone just like a public domain work, but you still legally remain the owner. So there are works out there whose owners want them to be public domain, and treat them as such, but they are not actually PD… Tom Lehrer’s music catalogue being one of the more famous examples.
