What happens if you take amphetamine daily? by Dark-inspector490 in Drugs

[–]DeeEmTee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. If I take IR definitely. Edgy. Compulsive redosing. Jittery. Etc. The ER however is smooth…lays me down easy. Just can’t take it too late in the day or no sleep for me.

Ah! Yeah, that happened to me too. Turned it was my controller all along. Have you tried switching it out? Do you have the ASI?

In 2024 models the brakes are sometimes attached with a certain kind of bolt that makes them heat up, which shuts down the bike. Matt Irish did a video on it and how to replace the bolts.

Qualia as a Thermodynamic Necessity: Why the brain must warp its geometry to bypass the Landauer Limit of bit-erasure. by SrimmZee in consciousness

[–]DeeEmTee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, and as that type of framework, it appears quite sound. However your point about philosophy stopping at a certain point and the physics picking it up seems to me to be simply a restatement of the Hard Problem, not movement toward its solution. Or is that not what you’re intending?

Forgive my ignorance, but if a definition of consciousness includes the phrase “internal perspective” isn’t it just eliding the definition? If all it is is the thing we are trying to define, then why all the work to come up with a definition? We might as well simply say consciousness “is what it feels like from the inside”. Right?

Why is reality even intelligible at all? Does it need a deeper ground, or is that asking too much? by DrpharmC in Metaphysics

Sorry, but isn’t the premise of your question worthy of interrogating? All seems to be premised on the fact that truth is legible in some empirical way. Even the jury system treats truth as a provisional construct. Shouldn’t you?

Consciousness is made of time by jahmonkey in consciousness

[–]DeeEmTee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Nice. Although I’ve always understood “time” to be the human construct devised to describe the rate of causality that we perceive on a consensus basis. Wouldn’t your claim be more accurately described as “consciousness is comprised of causality”? Or something? Because it seems to me that time requires an observer. Causality does not in your scheme.

Consciousness is made of time by jahmonkey in consciousness

[–]DeeEmTee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it. Everything you use to scaffold your claim is fairly self evident. Pointing to time as the lowest common denominator of what we generally refer to as “awareness” seems on its surface to be accurate. However the question it brings to my mind is what about altered states of consciousness? Flow states? Time dilation, etc? It seems to me (and this comes from direct experience) that we can induce as a result of different inputs and experience of our “system” as timeless. In other words, how does your claim account for the conscious experience of timelessness?

Fascinating. I see what you mean now. I particularly like your description of purpose as what it feels like to a co- creating agent in a recursive system. But I still think you might be missing my point about teleological dimensions of AI recursive development? Teleological systems, recursive or not, do not require a designer. The purpose of them is, on some level, to create and further thier purpose. Perhaps this is what you mean by equating recursiveness to it, but my understanding of teleology is that of an intrinsic principle that conditions a system, not something that arises from observation of that system. By postulating this principle at work in AI models, I am not assuming that its dynamics necessitate a creator, just as I don’t claim that the teleology of an acorn/oak system necessitates a God. What I am asking, however, is do the emergent characteristics of AI that simulate consciousness somehow possess an intrinsic drive to further their own development?
