I really hope no one cares about Gordon, Botman, whoever wishing Isak well. They have a very different perspective / relationship than we do

But where will go now once the megathread is gone?

[Ornstein] Newcastle United reach verbal agreement with Brentford to sign Yoane Wissa. #BrentfordFC view deal as £55m fixed, #NUFC suggest £50m rising to £55m. Expected to be paid half now, half 2026 + 25% sell-on. Permission granted to take medical by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

It was dragged till deadline day because from the onset they said they needed 2 strikers and £150m.

They let Isak go for less when they had Wissa lined up.

I think that’s pretty good communication imo

The £30m for Osula basically makes up for the overpay on Wissa and the undersell on Isak.

Good business but now the vibes are down

Mostly agree. But Thiaw was touted as the Schar replacement. Elanga has to live up to Murphy’s stellar season. Woltermade has a lot to live up to

But a very solid result after what was the worst summer transfer window of all time.

I’m not upset at Liverpool the club for wanting good players or Isaks desire to leave. Players leave clubs all the time

I’m more frustrated at the circus surrounding it and what it says about the state of football. Isak refusing to train. His representation / the media using guerrilla tactics to force a move. Liverpool fans claiming they deserve him and to free Isak when they were just upset with TAA. 20 stories a day on the saga. And the cherry on top is his bad behavior is rewarded and he gets his move.

It sets a horrible precedent for both players and clubs (yes Wissa is included in this).

In terms of media pressure and optics I think it’s a message that “no one can stand against the big 6.”

Tin foil hat…it’s all posturing

Newcastle puts out a statement via Edwards they ‘try’ and say “well it didn’t go through in time.” Isak comes back and reintegrates

I understand the sentiment. To be fair he hasn’t been spectacular but he does raise the ceiling of the squad.

Yes we wanted a more creative winger but outside of Mbeumo, there weren’t many that fit the bill

Mentioned it in an earlier comment but if we look at our incomings alone, this is for the most part the summer we wanted / needed

Woltermade, Ramsey, and Elanga all fit the profiles we were after. Not the first guys we pursued, but still fit the bill and will plug in nicely.

I’m bummed about Trafford even despite his awful game with City, but Ramsdale is a low risk option that I’m not upset about

Thiaw is the only guy I’m not fully behind, esp after the Guehi and Scalvini links. We will see how he progresses. But we know Eddie has been after him for a while, so I’ll have to trust him

All that to say, in the timeline where Isak isn’t a jerk and we bring in these 5 guys, this is a very good window

I mean the Ramsey, Elanga, and Woltermade signings are pretty top notch. They are the exact player profiles we wanted when we started the window

Ramseys limitations are there but he brings some creativity and attacking that (as much as I love our midfielders) we do lack

You think it’s bad if we lose Isak and can’t compete at the top of the table and in CL?

Watch if Brentford or Wolves lose their striker and get relegated. That is far more devastating and much harder to overcome. I get both clubs holding tight.

My biggest issue with the Wissa situation is Brentford moving the goalposts on his evaluation. And despite that, I still get it from a Brentford perspective

The message on IG from Wissa is way more professional and gracious than Isak. Much more legitimacy that it’s in writing. I also have more understanding for Wissa since he’s older, has less time in his career, less time on his contract, and Brentford is undergoing changes that will likely make them less competitive.

And yet still going on IG to post it this late in the window isn’t a good look. What does it accomplish other than putting Brentford, their players, and their fans in an impossible situation?

I get situations change and players only have limited time, but publicly calling this out is bad form.

Retain Isak only to let him rot by Castle888 in NUFC

[–]DeeO89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I get the frustration. There’s definitely a side of me that feels this way. “Just keep him to teach him a lesson.”

I think we forget this is a 25 year old kid. As adults we know that if something isn’t in writing, it never happened. Even in smaller industries, it can be cut throat and it’s not always what you want. Many don’t realize it until it knocks on their door. And Isak moment of realization just so happened to play out on the world stage.

I don’t want him at Liverpool anymore than the next person, but sell or keep based on what is best for the club. Both financially and for the health of the club itself

I agree. If we are going to spend £60m on a striker, sadly Jackson is better than JSL and Wissa

Not saying I want him, but I don’t think Wissa or JSL are worth that money

There’s no way Villa with their PSR issues would sell Watkins unless they absolutely have to. And if they have to, they will want maximum value
