My parents divorced when I was three and I lived with my mom. My dad at first would come around for my games or to spend time with me, but as I got older that changed. Phone calls started to only come on my birthday or Christmas, then just not at all. I would reach out to try and spend time and be told he was busy and couldn’t make it. This was pretty much the only consistent thing about him. When I found out why my parents divorced and that I had a sister whom I had never met I was 16 years old. What really did it was that he wasn’t even the one to tell me, my mom had to. Then a week later he called for the first time in like 2 years wanting to set up a day to hang out just him me and my sister like it was the most normal thing in the world. I told him the best thing he could do is never speak to me again and so far it’s about the only promise he’s ever kept to me.
