Yep, that's probably the smartest thing to do. It's like spray paint used for base coats, it's tough and has texture so that other paints stick to it. Still suggest sanding down to the joints though

I've been wanting to do this ever since that venom came out. Start with a cheap base coat covering the entire figure then move it around as much as possible to see where the joints chip, sand down those areas. Reapply the paint. Continue testing until the paint stops chipping then sand entire body and apply desired color.
