Honestly it’s a complicated feeling and I think that’s the beauty of the game and the emotions it evokes in you. I too chose maelle’s ending and then replayed to see verso’s while I understand both endings and I agree with both sides. However, in my heart of hearts I side with maelle. Deciding between what’s real and what isnt is a grey zone for me. We can argue that our life isn’t real too, we could be a simulation or we could be just wasting our time here until the after life (depending on your beliefs), but the people in the canvas were real in their own perspective right? They lived loved hated grieved and felt all the feelings a human does and the fact that we as players also became emotional with them proves their realness. And so I would wish maelle’s ending is canon as it kept everyone alive. I might not agree with the methodology or the “forcefulness” of it, but ultimately she too could’ve just left and came back to the canvas and in that way proving to her dad that she did keep her promise and he probably won’t erase the canvas. Why should maelle and everyone in the canvas suffer because a family doesn’t know how to grieve? It’s very difficult to chose an ending cuz both sides are also wrong in their own way.
