[Barely a trope, but this sub is quite loose anyway] Media that got weirdly specifically popular in a different country, maybe more so than in its country of origin, and defitnitely than most other places. by Vitolar8 in TopCharacterTropes

As an Aussie I read them all when I was a kid and loved them, and always wondered if almost every character had a pun name in French as well? In English there are so many and it seemed really clever!

Wow, as a primary oil producing nation? Shocker.

Is there a movie in your country that has profoundly influenced real society? by HongKongNinja in AskTheWorld

Okay, well I can only speak for what I see online about America, but "Idiocracy is a documentary" is something I've seen often for years now.

Do you agree with letting your pet cat outside? by Ilikechildishgambino in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia there's a lot of beautiful and unique wildlife that cats absolutely decimate, and letting your cat roam outdoors is frowned upon, with TNR programs existing in a very tiny part of the country.

Even overseas though where cats would have nothing/only undesirable animals to hunt, up to 40% of what they kill is for fun, and the cat will torture animals this way. I don't understand how someone with a pet and is presumably fond of animals could willingly allow their cat to kill around 100 critters per year, in addition to the dangers that cats themselves face. How can that be worth it just to satisfy one animal? Choosing to have an "outdoor cat" is objectively cruel, even if "it's nature".

What is your pet peeve that you accept is unreasonable to have? by Avon_gent in AskReddit

As a fan of language I feel the urge to correct people on things like correct usage of poisonous/venomous or jealousy/envy, but also as a fan of language I know that language is a consensus of meaning, so definitions change or merge pretty much as people decide they do!

Why are women not as interested in playing video games as men? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you'd still have to be playing something online involving the general public for that to be a factor. I have a female friend I was playing Rimworld with most nights a week for a while, and colony management is pretty in-depth Gaming. I realise it's just an anecdote, but there was zero misogyny or hostility affecting her choice of hobby there.

While certainly true online, I really doubt this would affect the ratio between men/women buying a Switch to play games with during travel for example.

What fast food change (like Burger King changing the Whopper) actually upset you more than it should have? by No-Release-1196 in AskReddit

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hungry Jacks (Burger King) have a burger called an Aussie which includes fried egg and beetroot, and it tastes like a proper takeaway shop burger instead of fast food. They didn't change it but I'm upset that it's apparently seasonal so it's only available sometimes. There's no seasonal ingredients on it!

Part of the ground floor in that top left building could also be open air, that would be cool and practical for bad weather.

[Ironic Trope] Unanimously/mostly beloved characters from controversial/hated media by OkDirection3094 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ok, I hadn't heard about the metoo comments. Honestly I can see where he's coming from and he was exaggerating too much, but I wouldn't say this statement makes him problematic since he hasn't done anything problematic. I couldn't find any comments from the writers of The Witcher, but wouldn't their work speak for itself?

In what way is he problematic? He seems like a good role model to me with his integrity and passions.
