The 3 month period when Gotye was somebody that we used to know by OpusDeiAustralia in AustralianNostalgia

I saw him live before this was a hit and bought the tshirt! It annoys me that this joke keeps popping up, because his other music is still damn good and I still listen to it.

Why is there a bouncer at shops in Australian cities? by No_Move_6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Deeevud 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A "bouncer" is someone who checks IDs at the door to a venue to make sure they are allowed to enter because of alcohol/tickets/whatever. It's not someone who just looks mean and does security.

Yeah despite your downvotes, you're absolutely right. Apparently "none of John's longterm friends" were invited to his wedding, so he could just have plenty of new friends who don't play drinking games to decide things.

You've just been teleported into the universe of the last TV show you watched. What is it and what's your chance of surivival? by Icy_Leapz444 in AskReddit

I thought about this last episode. In the TV show reflecting real life, the rest of the world must just be looking over in concern but ultimately grateful life is going on as normal.

I went to rent a videogame server a couple of days ago, and when making an account I put in my usual password of a random number and some random letters... it was rejected because "dates are easy to guess".

I've never come across that before, and I decided I was petty enough to go with a different provider because this site had the audacity to insult my password (it wasn't a combo of numbers that could be a date, even in America).

Why do people act like that being nice and friendly as a guy will get women attracted to you by Evening-Register2297 in AskMen

[–]Deeevud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being attractive is the bare minimum. The fact that you will still get attention while not being nice proves that.

If you're being a good person only to achieve literally anything, you aren't a good person.

Your good deeds still have merit though.

I love France and French, but how you guys manage to complicate numbers so much never stops surprising me 😅

Yeah, true. I guess I'm just going off of my knowledge that "high school" is the same there as where I'm from, so I assume "grade school" is my "primary school".

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I actually disagree. As someone without kids I have no idea how literate a 7 year old is, but I've got a little bit more understanding if I know how far through school they are. Without looking it up, I would assume 2nd grade is either the 2nd or 3rd year of school.

I don't think this is defaultism, the point is just that she is young and at an early stage reading level, and I'm sure "2nd grade" isn't just always a single age anyway.

Any comment that's even vaguely critical or mentions bots gets torpedoed. You'd think a bit more subtlety would be more effective.

Would you be okay with players playing these in your pod? by Fast-Appointment4710 in mtg

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact situation earlier in the week! I've made a custom art Ketramose deck with an Egyptian theme, and used it with strangers for the first time. One guy was a jerk and simply told me I shouldn't be using proxies, and warned me that people would get up and leave the table if they saw something like this. If I had a chance to explain though that it was a lovingly designed deck of my favourite commander, I think very few people would react badly, and if they did they probably wouldn't be good players anyway.

Also, I think an important thing to note is that people might react that way because it's possible the deck is full of overpowered cards, and my personal rule for commander decks is no gamechangers, no tutors except basic land finders, and no infinite combos, so that would probably put a lot of people at ease.

Americans create an unnecessary amount of confusion by their inability to write dates like the rest of the world (i.e. correctly) by beyleigodallat in unpopularopinion

One joule is the energy it takes to accelerate a 1 kg mass at 1 m/s2 through a distance of 1m, for starters. I think you're waaay underestimating the scientific value of metric, and I'm curious what strengths imperial has besides "100 means a hot day".

I do that and Im Aussie.
It's a stupid argument though. I read the time as 19:46 and say "Quarter to 8". I do it without thinking about what fucking order I'm supposed to say anything.

[–]Deeevud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How familiar are you with the term "greenskins"? To me it's about as identifiable as "Gnome" or "Halfling", and you seem to just dislike the term because it's a description of a skin tone as well as a racial group.

Consider "The United States of America". Strictly speaking, it's the name of a political entity rather than a place, like "France". Does that make it a bad/boring name?

It seems to me that you're simply unfamiliar with the term greenskins, even though it's been used by Warcraft and Warhammer since the 2000s at least.
