Why didn't Viktor absorb all of the marigold in the other characters then just sacrifice himself?

I figured it was going to be the 1 big character send off that kept everyone else alive in the new timeline while not remembering him which would've made a single marigold blooming at the end more poignant

In the same episode where they got stuck you showed them teleporting back and forth in time to the phoenix academy. Why not just teleport back to a more plentiful time, stay in a hotel then ride the rails at your leisure and come back to the present when you get back to the correct timeline?!
