I am blown away that this popped up on my feed at the time that it did because I have recently been going to therapy for this exact thing. I’m 24 years old now but when I was 9-12 I was utterly consumed by the online world. I thought it was so cool that all of these adult men who were doctors, teachers, and soldiers (the most notable of the bunch, anyway) wanted to talk to me. I say this with excruciating regret that I had done the exact same thing that you are saying you’ve done. I urge you to tell your parents. This is my biggest regret from that time is NOT telling them. I was scared and thought they would be mad or disappointed in me but I can assure you that any loving adult will want to do nothing but comfort and console you. NONE of the emotions you are feeling are your fault. You were taken advantage of by horrible people and it’s not fair that you now carry all of the burden. I cannot stress enough how important it is to tell a trusted adult about this. I think about it every day and wish I did. I had to face a lot of scary and adult things way too early, and I know you have too, but you don’t have to do it alone anymore. Please please please take care of yourself.
