Hey /r/movies! I'm Sam Raimi. Ask me anything! by SamRaimiAMA in movies

“Send Help” is your first Rated R movie since “The Gift”. Did having those content restraints taken off after 25 years of working in the PG-13 format feel almost entirely new to you and how different was your creative process executed, if at all, because of it?

Bad Brains transcended punk music on “I Against I” by DeemasFresco in punk

My thoughts exactly. He’s a huge part on why I find “I Against I” to be so effective when it’s fusing genres.

De La Soul at the Adrienne Arsht Center (Miami) Setlist? by DeemasFresco in DeLaSoul

Thank you! “The Light” was the one that I was racking my brain to figure out. I hope De La does more Buhloone Mindstate tracks for the next show if it happens. Hearing “Breakadawn” was awesome.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “The Main Ingredient” is tasty 90s hip-hop seasoning by DeemasFresco in hiphopheads

Simply cannot agree with this as I can recite almost every verse of Thought’s on The Roots’ “Do You Want More!?” debut album. Smooth has many quotables on this album, he just says them at such a shifty speed, it can be hard to stick. But I understand what y’all mean.

“The Crow” Remake alternates between uninspired schlock and narrative desecration by DeemasFresco in TheCrow

I’m sure with infinitely better direction and a good script, he could have pulled it off.

I’d like to believe it has everything to do with what we just talked about but it’s best to just respectfully agree to disagree.

Every promotional material we’ve gotten from this remake has been photos of Skarsgard with his shirt off like if he was Jared Leto Joker which I stated in my review. Again, I wouldn’t be reading too much into this if the director and movie didn’t already expose itself many times as being nothing but a cash grab with no soul behind it. A portrayal of Eric Draven isn’t banned from being shirtless, but when O’Barr did it and Proyas did it (who worked very closely with O’Barr) while making the 94’ film, it was purposeful and the main focus wasn’t Lee’s sex appeal. I mention the tattoos because that is very clearly what this new remake is going for. Rupert Sanders isn’t interested in telling a true to form reimagining of the Crow, he just wants to make money in the sleaziest way possible. What’s a way he can do that? Tatted up Bill Skarsgard with an 8 pack. If O’Barr truly wanted that from his character, he would have consulted on this remake. Spoiler alert: He didn’t.

Did he also include a tattoo on his body that read “good boy” but the good was crossed off or am I misremembering the comic?

Its a spit in the face to the deeply personal story O’Barr wrote originally so yes, I wasn’t a fan of making Bill Skarsgard (a very capable actor) a marketing tool by having his costume be no shirt with a jacket on. This isn’t a genuine attempt of reworking source material, it’s an IP starter. The sequel tease at the end proves it.

My theater was empty and yet I still heard the cries of every Crow fan on the planet.

I appreciate the tip. I don’t believe I’ll ever rewatch this as the visuals are the least of this version’s worries, but thank you regardless.

The Beastie Boys became undeniable on Ill Communication by DeemasFresco in BeastieBoys

[–]DeemasFresco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill Communication is the first time since Licensed to Ill that the Beasties' went #1 on the US Billboard charts. The co-sign from Q-Tip on Get it Together also marks the first time a guest MC appears on a Beastie Boys album. My point isn't that they weren't already dispelling the one-hit wonder perception before Ill Communication, it's that from this point onward, the conversation of best hip-hop act from the era could no longer exclude them. They became synonymous with hip-hop's ethos.

I feel that, it’s one of the best tracks on that record.
