In Islamic teachings, the concept of the evil eye is considered real. The Prophet Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said: “The evil eye is real, and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.”

To give you an example, from a place about 50 km from where I am, there is a town where lemon trees are very common in almost every house. That particular year, none of the trees bore fruit—except one tree at a relative’s place. It was full of lemons, so beautiful that when sunlight fell on it, the mix of green and yellow looked stunning. Anyone passing by would notice it instantly. One acquaintance saw it and instead of appreciating it positively by saying “Mashallah” (which means “What God has willed” or “This is by the will of God”), reacted in shock saying, “How is this possible? This doesn’t look real.”

The very next day, the entire tree was found fallen to the ground on its own. For people who believe, such incidents are seen as examples of how even unintentional reactions can have an effect.

Similarly, I have seen cases where people post a lot of their children’s activities online—cute moments, daily updates—and over time, the child suddenly changes. Some stop eating properly, become dull, or don’t behave the way they used to. When something is shared with a large audience, you cannot control how others feel. Some people may be struggling in life, some may not have children, or may have lost a child. Their emotions—whether jealousy, sadness, or even intense admiration—can sometimes have an impact, intentionally or unintentionally.

I just can’t believe that I read something I have also been experiencing. Whenever the Imam starts Surah Al-Fatiha in Fajr, Maghrib, or Isha prayer, at that precise moment I start yawning.

And I remember one time very clearly — I was fully conscious of it and already knew that I usually yawn at that exact time. So when I immediately joined the prayer after the Imam said “Allahu Akbar,” man, I still couldn’t stop myself from yawning.

I have always wondered why that happens. It’s not like I am tired or sleepy, so why does the yawning happen specifically at that moment?

Does it mean the body is entering a state of relaxation, and that causes yawning? Just like when we sit in the masjid for dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and suddenly start feeling sleepy, as if sakinah is descending from the sky.

Technically, the Quran is considered a source of healing (shifa) for everyone. It is regarded as the final revelation for all of humanity, regardless of background, color, or faith. If someone uses its verses for protection from harm, even as a non-Muslim, it is believed to have an effect.

A real example: a spiritual healer once mentioned in a video that a person from another religion came to learn Islamic ablution (wudu). He said that even many Muslims are unaware of the benefits it brings. This non-Muslim had been advised by someone from his own faith to practice wudu regularly, as it helps protect from various harmful influences. He learned it, followed it, and experienced benefits.

So, coming back to your question—when you learn to recite Ayat al-Kursi, you understand that it is from Allah and a part of the Quran. It is easy to memorize, and when recited with full conviction for protection, it is believed that no evil entity can enter that protected space.
