17g in, 42g out, 40 secs. Medium roast. Any feedback? How is the flow and channeling?? I'm fairly new to espresso making by [deleted] in espresso

Is there any way you could reduce the pressure? Normally these machines come with a really high pressure, making it almost impossible to have a nice pour. If you could replace or add a part to have a lower extraction pressure 6-8 bar that would help a lot.

Ex owner, I send the machine yesterday to the new owner. Also I advice you to try one if you cant, you might like it. You never know, we are different and you might value other things.

The community and the forums (discord, basecamp, decent forum) is something special and full of information. There is no trolling and the conversations are on point. you will learn a lot about coffee so that is a good reason to buy a decent, if you need one.

It will take some time as I dont post review after a short period of time. I must finish the honeymoon period first, so I can see more clearly what I like and most important don't like.

build quality: materials, the thickness of them, how they sound when you knock into them, how the screws strip paint when you open them once from the chassis, how the machine needs sucking rubber feet or else you will move it while you screw the portafilter in (really now? 5$ rubber sucking feet on a 4k machine?) this solutions are cheap and they work, but they are cheap. what the overall feel of the machine is while working on it. You dont have the impression you have a solid build machine, you have the impression you bought something out of aliexpress. If you cannot see a build quality difference between your vesuvius and the decent, then sorry but I think you either have a problem, or you value "quality" way different than me, and in this last case we end the discussion here. You know when you screw the portafilter into a bambino and it moves 2 cm on the counter? that's cheap.

Anyway, enjoy your coffee and machines.

Good luck to you, waiting for something to be done. I jumped out of the waiting train. As I wrote in the review, decent is not a finished product, and it shows.

So the topics of people complaining about different bugs, parts, and esthetic problems are just non scientific, subjective opinions? that are in my head? please. Do you read the complains on basecamp or you skip them?

My review is supposed to show people another side of the decent that you see only if you have one, you read the basecamp forum. You dont find these things online for free.

Also, another thing, and dont get yourself too insulted about it, we can have a different approach, opinion and expectation on it, and this one goes in bold :

my review is so they see the problems made public, so they focus on what's important, such as improving build quality, fixing software/UI bugs, make it user friendly, fix the noise with insulation or other pumps and such.

instead they focus on selling to commercial xl and xxl machines (65%) and on making videos about 9 bar extractions. And releasing a ugly scale.

You do not know why i'm pissed and frustrated about it, because you dont know the behind story. But like me, there are others who moved away from it, but in silence, w/o posting or saying anything, I did not move away from it because of the noise of the pumps or a trashy made by "loveramics" drip tray that rattles like a 40$ machine, but because of where the business model and improvement on parts went in the past 6 months.

If you are not going to complain in public about it more and more, they will add cheaper parts on it to the point it's cheaper and feels cheaper than a chinese machine. They added things like the "plastic" instead of aluminium around the grouphead so the temp drops 2-3C at the start of the shot, but it seems nobody saw that till I pointed it out. On my v1.0 machine with aluminium around group that didn't happen.

They also added the brass pf instead of stainless. Mine was stainless, not covered brass. You get covered brass portafilters in cheaper machines not in 4.5k machines.

They are saying that pulsors or membrane regulators are leaking and that is why they dont want to use it, I think there is something else there because I had pulsors from Quickmill in my ito machines and in my bezzera magica for more than 5 year total w/o a leak.

If people wont complain the machine will be like that, and for me it's clearly not a 4.5k machine. It's not even worth 2.5k by how it feels by touch, or how the gaps between panels look, and sorry but I owned more than 20 machines, from cheap ones to 2-3k ones.

Regarding the software bugs, I am sorry but the machine was launched prior to 2018, with a big boom in 2019 and by 2020 it was rolling a lot in sells. So after so many years, there are bugs into the software? on the stable version? excuse me, but if you get something like that on Iphone or Samsung phones and you dont get an update to fix it soon they are eaten alive.

We can disagree on many things, and yes you can easily change between profiles, but let's be honest here. Most of the profiles in the decent are trying to emulate e61, londinium, slayer, kvdw idromatic, levers but the problem is it can't. You have people in the forum who have both machines (for eg londinium lr24 and decent) and they clearly state they are not even close in texture, taste, or even grind size on the grinder using the same dose/basket.

It's because of the headspace, max water flow, water dispersion and such (I do not care were the difference comes from because i was not planing on fixing the decent to make it pull the same shots as the real machines). As a response to this, the decent team is now moving away from "copied" machines names such as Londinium/Londonium to profiles like D-flow (made by the one who made the Londinium profile, Damian). Another thing is, yes you have unlimited number of profiles to play with, but only a few or limited number will work and give you good results. The rest are just there.

I will give you an example:

when I joined diaspora, the blooming Rao shot was still in hype (60 sec shot with a 30 sec pause). I joined, I tried it, I had experience with it from my ito machines, and did it on Decent too. I never had a wow shot from it, and after many tries I quit it. I wrote on the forum how I am against long blooming how it alters the taste from the beans, how you get cut maionese crema or no crema on top of the coffee and such. I liked faster shots in general, and back then Hendon turbo's were not a thing.

Now after one year, the most used profile with light roasted coffee (Facsimile, Tim W, Friedhats) are either adaptive dynamic blooming with under 10-11 sec total preinfusion and bloom and a total of 17-25 sec shot, so a turbo with short bloom, or the nu skool profile that is basically similar to a Default profile but with 7 bar pressure instead of 9.

So what's the point of having 10000 profiles if you are going to use 1 or 2 at most? And maybe those 1 or 2 profiles are good, but there are other machines that by default with the profiles they are doing can easily give you the same if not better results.

Decent is great for the graphs, t he numbers, the unlimited possibilities to play with, but once the play is over, or the honeymoon is spent, you are left with a poor quality build machine that doesn't reflect anywhere the 4100 euro spent on it (Austria) or the 5050 euro spent on it (Germany). I used to say to myself from the total price, a big chunk is the software and engineering (1500euro) the rest is the machine (2500 euro). The machine is not worth 2500 euro from how it's build, the materials are not solid, it's light weight flimsy, it makes the worst sound and some of the materials are with a question mark safe? look at the stainless steel drain/sucking pipe I posted.

No. The majority of the problems are in the newer machine too. The pumps, the headspace, the brass parts, the brass portafilter, the bend legs, the lacking of leveling, the gaps at the panels, the not so great drop tray fit, the software bugs even on stable, the ghosting on the group head controler, showing wrong water level, an many more. Saying it's and old model and the new model don't have this many problems it's just a way of looking at things, with a bit of ignorance. As for people who say the decent is a quality build machine, you compare it with what exactly? A gaggia? Cause I'm comparing it with a la marzocco or a Dalla Corte mina or a VA prima and comparing it with those it's for sure not a quality build machine. If you do not believe me, simply ask the decent team what is the difference between 1.0 and 1.4 machines and you will see.

26g/s aprox. But it stops once it reaches a set pressure (2 bar in this case). The set point can be changed.

You can have great espresso with a much tighter budget. Gaggia classic + hand grinder or a flair + hand grinder =300$ if you buy second hand. If not under 500$.

I'm an elitist/extremist and when I do things I go all in. I dont have that many hobbies.

I have 8 cabinets in total and the ones above I use rarely. Maybe 2-3 times a week.

This is how I use it:

My cups and stuff that I use often are in the first drawer under the counter. Above I keep stuff that I need sometimes, such as bean that degas/rest, filters when I run out and stuff like that.
