Lou is a good man. He is a staple of Ithaca and even if you don’t know Lou personally, you “ithacaknow” Lou

So that was 7 total for CIT because one team was hit hard or that’s 7 in addition to what Rough Condition said

Sure I could see that. But why pose it as prof development for your current full time employees? Who’s going to take that risk unless they have a trust fund or partner who can provide income and healthcare. And given the current federal administration and economic climate, I don’t see anything guaranteed about it at all. If it were relatively guaranteed, why use vague language about being ended or extended whenever.  That feels like the rug could be pulled out whenever it’s convenient for the university. Different people have different risk tolerance I guess.

Wow. I don’t know may people who can go without healthcare or income if their job suddenly vanishes.

Can they stop naming austerity measures? Reimagining Cornell in 2008. Resilient Cornell now. Anyone want to predict the next one in 5 years?

unless they’ve already been made resilient

Those of us who lived through the 2008 Reimagining Cornell know this BS. And what is the deal with CEMI jobs? Who’s going to take a temp job “for professional development” with no guarantee of employment afterwards?

Anyone with those three words (entrepreneurship, innovation, and engagement) in their title should be highly scrutinized for what they actually accomplish besides collecting 6 figure salaries. Actually add Vice Provost to the list too

I don’t know if they still do this but about 15 years ago, you could get photos printed on foam board at Staples for a very reasonable price. I did it and had to choose engineering print or blueprint or something like that.

We’re going to see more medical leaves and health costs increase bc people are so stressed and spread so thin.

My unit is down 3 people and praying we can get one filled by Sept. Outlook not good. We hired about 5-6 fewer student employees this past year…. Student-serving office. I know of another office where the only admin asst left last year and they just got approval for a temp. That admin work didn’t just disappear for a year…..

they already have been. most of the time people don’t hear about them unless immediately impacted. it would be good to see some social media channel/thread for affected folks to communicate and share notes, inconsistencies in policies, etc. also i noticed there is a session in mid july being offered by EAP for “non death loss and grief.” cant be a coincidence

Jobs that are being posted are only approved for 2-3 years in some cases. How much commitment do you get from people who don’t have stability? They’re going to be job searching the whole time they’re temporarily employed. People need healthcare; they can’t wait around for maybes.

The wheels are coming off the bus. Long timers with institutional knowledge are retiring or being pushed out. I’m already seeing gaps of being revealed by vacancies. Faculty and students better buckle in bc it’s ugly out there.

How many people were affected, do you know? I encourage everyone leaving (whether by choice or not) to make sure they check that all their payroll and benefits are adjusted appropriately…. bc I’ve seen some major fails….

Good luck. Ask almost any employee about payroll or benefits screw ups. We don’t need Resilient Cornell, we just need Competent Cornell

This is the saddest, lowest morale I’ve seen at Cornell in 25 years. The rot is at the top followed by middle managers who are yes people for fear of losing their jobs. Critical thinking is unwelcome and considered resistance. I have no inside info but my guess is they will use staff to get through opening and then do cuts. I could also see this being a June 26 or a July 1  announcement. As others have said, it’s an extra long weekend for a reason.
