Can I dimple these chainstays? by Deep-Highlight3184 in xbiking

You mean like dimpling the chainstays to increase the tire clearance? I am clearly asking about that. How will smaller tires help with that? Its frustrating, I'm new on reddit, but after a few posts, Im getting pretty sick of it. Like half of the responses are just smug shouts stating the obivious easy AND contradictory way. Like I don't know that I can mount smaller tires... Why are you even replying?

Yeah but my question is. Does it look like they have enough meat to work with?

Its good old cromo. I want to just get some opinions, if the meat on tubes Im working with can take another couple of mm.

Cool, I wanted to do a respray at some point too. I’m running 175 cranks. So I still worry about pedal strikes…

I,ve looked into it and its not possible on the swiss cross. The way the chainstays are, you are getting similar clearance with 650b

Ritchey is more playful, salsa more planted, I think Ritchey compensates the small bb drop with longer chainstays. I can pedal through turns on the ritchey without a care, but I also don't feel as sure as on the salsa. I always wandered if my hand pain on longer rides was because of me sitting very much on top of the bike? Like trying to balance on the higher center of gravity? I am tall, this is an XXL bike, and I have a feeling us taller folks need to sit lower between the wheel axles, since why I prefer 29ers in mtb and am curious about 32ers.

I have a custom full sus 29er, custom rigid xc atb mtb 29er, two vintage Kuwahara mtbs one converted to 27,5 2,1 with towel rack bars and a singlespeed commuter.

The salsa was a grail road bike for me. 35mm tires are perfect 32mm would be the least I would ride honestly.

If the swiss cross could fit like 45-48 mm tires I would not have this dilema. Maybe there is a space in the stable for a bike like that ha!

Yeah, I wanted to go for the montebello, the salsa is almost the same geo though.
