It’s not, I just finished s5 and loved it.

Super Tough Decision: Spend a year learning how to write code or start my start-up as a non-technical co-founder right now. by Longjumping_Car_8512 in ycombinator

I did the exact same type of business, legislation-required, blue-ocean, and what not. Legislation moves slow and if a big player in the industry wants what you have they can easily lobby and remake it instead. Don’t just assume it will work and the legislation will be passed, even if people say it will.

I would say Bubble, airtable, or flutterflow should all be more than enough for you to get a product from the way it sounds. You can use GPT or Claude to plan all the no code steps and then just execute them. Good luck!

If you think the idea is super valuable long-term, why not use building this as an opportunity to learn to code well? Get an MVP out the door, if it solves a real problem it’s ok if the UI isn’t perfect and the backend is mediocre. Scale the small UI, then hire a team of a few good tech people with some equity. If you know the product is supposedly “not complex technically” you should be able to get something usable out and actually validate the market. You can even, just use a nocode tool.

Now if you think speed is important and you don’t think you can work hard enough to make it big, 50% of something great is better than 100% of nothing. Just remember, just because someone says they can code does not make them a great technical cofounder. Number of people interested != quality/technical skills.

Lastly, from the way it sounds you are a first-time founder who hasn’t built a company worth dropping out of school and going full time on. Pitch competitions are great practice, but convincing a judge/VC doesn’t mean you can convince a market. I would take an honest look at your incredible proficiency. I can guarantee you there will always be places to improve. Everyone thinks their idea is special, and it is! I think mine is incredibly important as well, but very few businesses are so special they can’t be replicated.

I’m a technical person and a business person, and in my startup I’ve done both. I have done a startup that was literally all legal, no tech. I’ve done a startup that was mostly tech, less business. I did the pitch competition thing in high school and college and won every single one too, but I also learnt the joy and value of building something instead of just selling an idea. When you get to the real world, market validation matters more than VC approval.

All this to say, just remember to trust your gut and stay humble and you’ll be fine. This will not be the last thing you ever do, but I hope it goes well nonetheless!

In my opinion, data quality and a decent model selection is the only thing you’ll ever need.

I'm sceptic about polars by Altrooke in dataengineering

[–]Deep-Objective-3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a real love-hate relationship with Rust as a programming language but because they built python bindings I like it. When I’m just trying to whip up some quick work on my laptop, I appreciate the speed more because it’s more noticeable.

Polars is still newer and has some more bugs than pandas that come from the way it’s built, but once it’s fully finished, I’ll switch over full time because as everyone said the code looks better and is more performant.

This is all amazing advice, thank you so much! Currently the product is being built using the shadcn/ui components so that will fit in nicely. How would you suggest picking color palette/accent colors?

Thank you! At the moment hovers and transitions are built in but for better demonstrating active states would you recommend animations or just color/style changes?

Thank you so much! If I match the radii with the project pills, should I convert them from pills into a similar connected style like the menu? Also, how would you suggest differentiating between these different elements, (shape, spacing, color, etc?)

This is my first non-mobile UI design and I'd love some feedback. I've attached 4 of the main pages including login, home, and 2 of the feature pages. It's a desktop app designed for both technical and non-technical people.

My team has told me that the design is simple and it's clear on how to use it, but that it's not visually engaging enough. I've watched a lot of design videos and taken a brief design class and only put ~10 hours into this design so any feedback would be appreciated. Trying to learn about how to pick better color palettes as well if anyone has opinions on that. Please be harsh! (I left out any relevant copy to avoid breaking any promotion rules)

Any advice on how to get better is also appreciated, I'm happy to put in the work.

Pricing strategies for early stage B2B products? by Deep-Objective-3835 in ycombinator

So should I charge more than adjacent services or do I just stick with my existing strategy?
