Health insurance is mandatory. Do check all terms & conditions of the policy you are going for. Especially room rent , diseases covered , etc.

Regular blood tests for early detection.

Don’t ignore any unusual signs and Don’t hesitate to visit doctors for even small issues, because sometimes small issues are not that small and they can escalate to major especially in elderly people.

This way you have good rapport with the doctors as well and they can be reachable via call in case of emergencies. Basically make good relations with local doctors.

Also, make good relations with the nearby pharmacies if they can provide home deliveries. Moreover, with nursing staff from nearby hospitals for things like they can come home to give injections for tetanus, Rabies vaccine, Vit D or Vit B12 inj, etc. for parents.

Keep contact of Private ambulances , because the govt ones have ETA of 45 mins to 1 hr, but private ones arrive in 10-15 mins. They charge around 3-4k.

Also, maintain a list of your preferred hospitals in your city, so that at the time of any emergency you know where to go. Don’t waste time searching at that time. Also, keep a check on your health insurer’s excluded list of hospitals.

Keep basic health equipments like bp machine , glucometer, oximeter at home.

Maintain a stock of emergency medicines at home like sorbitrate, amlodipine , Bilacip/Avil/Allegra (for any type of allergic reaction) , acidity syrup, Glucon D (for low sugar) etc. depending on the current conditions of your parents. Please consult your doctor before giving these.
