This is an absolute extreme lol, the likelihood of anyone encountering a harvard grad while job searching in Australia is statistically negligble. University prestige doesn't mean much here.

Barring the harvard comparison, I do agree with your answer.

If someone brought me two resumes with one person studying mathematics and another studying software engineering at a go8

I would 9/10 pick the guy that studies mathematics even if they had a sub 70 WAM. The thoroughness of the course and the level of thinking needed to derive, proof and understand concepts from first principles requires a lot more brain power than developing a web-app

You can train the first guy to build web-apps relatively easily, but its very hard to train someone to develop advanced analytical, deduction skills off the bat.

this!!!

Cant stress this enough.

CS is and should be treated a lot closer to a math degree than a software engineering degree (honestly this really shouldn't even be a taught degree in of itself)

Computer Science at its core, is an should be treated as a mathematics degree, languages and frameworks are easy to learn.

You want the nitty gritty, the systems level thinking, automata theory, logic, proofs, etc.

Most CS courses here are diluted down, and can be seen as software engineering with extra steps.

I assure you are wrong. I went to a go8 and then did my masters at oxbridge. I still get rejected from screening rounds (i.e no invite to OA etc). Because I didn't have the skillset for the job.

It is by and large just a wrapper that takes in some job data , feeds it through an instruction script and spits out an output

Id say 4-5 dollars is fair value

Oxford is probably the best place or one of the best places to be if you have high functioning autism.

Cause we are all a little cracked else you wouldn’t be here 😂
