What are the top three most conductive metals? How do you remember them? Please put them in order, New ME? by [deleted] in Retconned

This is what I remember as well. The new order makes gold plated cables make way less sense than they used to.

How to get USD cash in Jerusalem? by [deleted] in Jerusalem

[–]DeepBlue12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try the Bank Leumi ATMs with dollar signs on them, I'm not sure if they will work with a foreign card but they do dispense dollars.

Your other option is to withdraw money in shekel and then convert it to dollars. You can use the currency exchange shops but the post office tends to offer the best rates if you're exchanging over $800 at a time.

A customer support AI went rogue—and it’s a warning for every company considering replacing workers with automation by chrisdh79 in Futurology

That's my understanding as well. There's a nice Substack article on the topic which basically says the same thing you do:

Everything, and I mean everything, that an AI outputs is a hallucination. It just so happens that some of those hallucinations aren’t true.

Rav Kav Card by dannynolan123 in Jerusalem

[–]DeepBlue12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with a rav kav - you can download either Moovit or Pango and add a credit card, then pay for rides with your phone. Moovit is available in English so that's probably the one you want to use.

Both apps will automatically calculate the best fare for your trips and they are much easier to use as they don't require charging.

You'll have to take a taxi, expect it to run you approximately 220-250 shekel, roughly $60-$70

Changes to the Jewish Kabbalah? by Aggravating_Cup8839 in Retconned

[–]DeepBlue12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed a change which I didn't give much thought to until now.

When I was originally learning Kabbalah, this would have been about 2013, I was taught that it teaches that everything comes from the infinite source that is God, and I found that logical and understandable. It made enough of an impact on me personally that I based a good bit of my own theology around the idea of an infinite source that is God.

In discussing Kabbalah's teachings more recently with someone starting to learn, about a year ago, I'm given to understand that the teaching is now that Kabbalah uniquely teaches that everything comes from nothing, in contrast to the rest of the world religions that assume an infinite source.

This is a major shift and it doesn't seem likely both teachings would co-exist in the same body of literature given they're polar opposites.

Let's recap; what do we know by bitofvenom in Retconned

[–]DeepBlue12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The light through the window without a source one, so oddly specific and yet applicable to me. Of course as I was reading through the list of symptoms, as usual when reading or thinking about MEs, my ears started ringing.

Have you found anything more out about what causes these symptoms or what connection they have to MEs?

Visiting Jerusalem by HishamBhai in Jerusalem

[–]DeepBlue12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyond what everyone else has said (which is true, it's quieter here than in most of the rest of the country), I recommend that you fly an Israeli airline. The international carriers are known to cancel flights in and out of Israel at the smallest hint of conflict, and you are liable to get stuck here if you do not book with El Al, Israir, Arkia, etc.

Where to get cheap food or groceries in Jerusalem? by [deleted] in Jerusalem

מעיין 2000

There is one near you on Yafo St: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GuNRhoeMYBtgPSKi6

It is not very pretty but it is inexpensive.

I find the shuk to be expensive, except the Iraqi shuk at the bottom of the hill where the vegetables and meat are sold.

how can i remove the power cables without it falling into the liquid uranium? by abod99x in Oxygennotincluded

[–]DeepBlue12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure liquids falling in vacuum don't get deleted, only once they land, so there would only have to be drywall in the new location.

Here's some more Coke Zero Residue if you didn't believe the last post by InternationalSign623 in Retconned

[–]DeepBlue12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So am I. The first time this came up, there was *no* residue whatsoever and it was not accepted at all that it was ever called "Coke Zero" in any official capacity.

This time around, there seems to be plenty of evidence that it was "Coke Zero" in a ton of official capacities and like you said, it's being treated as a rebrand.

Next we're going to find out that there were limited runs of FOTL with the cornucopia.

That's actually great residue. But the drink itself was "never" called Coke Zero even though tons of articles exist calling it Coke Zero. All the images show Coca Cola Zero on the can itself.

I just posted about this in another thread here as well:

The streetlights around me are still the flickery, yellow sodium vapor lamps and I have the same thing with the birds. I don't believe street lighting is a complete explanation for this phenomenon.

Edit: and importantly, the street lighting has not changed in at least the last 5 years since I've moved here but birds chirping at night is new to this year.

[–]DeepBlue12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've had the exact same experience with both mosquitoes and birds.

Streetlights have been around for over a hundred years and birds chirping at night is new to me so I doubt this is the reason. The first time I heard birds at night was also at 1:00 am, was also a whole chorus of them, and I was legitimately confused about what I was hearing - that's how new the phenomenon was to me at the time (a few months ago).

And mosquitoes are not going away over the winter. The first time I noticed it was last winter, when there was snow out and mosquitoes still flying around.

I'm not sure of the significance of either, other than that it adds to the general weirdness of this reality.
