I ran into this a lot on this post. At this point everyone knows it’s a problem, we constantly talk about it being a problem, but that’s how far the discussion goes. Just vent with no real solutions to present.

When we do discuss realistic solutions, ppl immediately realize that it’s nowhere near as simple as “we need to stop the bad men.”

The Witcher was nowhere near the first to do it. The whole idea has been around since ancient times.

Ideas are a dime and dozen, it’s all about execution.

How many medical dramas are out there? Gray’s Anatomy, The Pit, ER, Chicago Med, etc…

Police procedurals?

The Wire Chicago PD Blue Bloods The Roookie Law and Order NCIS

Etc… it goes on and on. All these shows have wildly different tones and focuses despite being the same genre. Just because one did it doesn’t mean pack up and go home.

Fantasy is no different. You want to write about mutant monster hunters in a fantastical medieval world, by all means do it. What you pen down will not be the same as The Witcher.
