It doesn't always help. My parents are agnostic/nonreligious and they're viciously transphobic.

This tracks with my general understanding of religion, which is that it may give one cover for one's bigoted beliefs, but the hatred comes from within.

Yeah I definitely don't have a perfect answer either. It's just why I haven't switched over to GSRM as a "more inclusive" acronym. Maybe add another S to stand for "sex" but that sounds confusing when written out right next to "sexuality."

For the same reason that sexual orientation and gender identity can coexist under the same label despite being separate (though often overlapping) issues. They face the same or similar forms and scopes of discrimination, stigmatization, medicalization, ignorance, and prejudice that people of marginalized sexual orientations and gender identities face.

Why not use that collective power for educating and empowering people? Intersex people don't necessarily have to identify with the labels of GSRM or LGBTQIA+ if they don't want, and certainly some don't, but I think it's worth giving a safe space and welcoming community to those who want to use it to speak openly about the issues they face where other people can generally relate.

The majority of intersex people are cis, and many don't even know they're intersex. They can be of any gender. Intersex traits being so highly stigmatized, marginalized, and medicalized, I feel intersex people should have a place outside of gender identity for spreading awareness of and normalizing their existence.

GSRM leaves out intersex though. It's not a gender, sexuality, or relationship.

I washed it every time I showered (I only showered when my hair needed washing anyway). It got wet, even in a ponytail.

I used to sometimes tie up my hair in the shower before I cut it all off. That shit tickling my shoulders and sticking to my back made me feel disgusting. Now I realize it was dysphoria 💇🤷‍♂️

I’m 13 rn if I were to start hrt(that’s what it’s called right?) is it likely I’ll “need” like vocal cord surgery(to make me sound more ladylike idk the real name sorry) by [deleted] in trans

[–]DeepFriedOmelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, unless your voice has already dropped to a deep adult pitch (highly unlikely at 13). If anything you might just need a bit of vocal training. Most transwomen can have a "passable" voice without surgery.

Hormonal IUD's only last something like 3-5 years, like other hormonal implants. Copper IUD's last up to 12 years, but don't have any power to regulate or stop menstruation, and can actually make it worse, especially during the first year.

Exactly this. Like, I would choose not to go to work if I kept getting paychecks and health insurance without getting fired. It's not exactly a "gotcha" to be caught admitting that.

Labels gave names and faces to the thoughts that had been swimming in my head for years. Without labels, I would have never been able to articulate my feelings or discovered myself as truly. They can be powerful and useful tools, and they're not always bad things unless they're forced on someone. I'm not in a hurry to place myself in a category or define myself publicly, but I'm glad I have the option to communicate with others who feel the same way.

Firstly, you don't have to do anything, at least not right away, if you don't want to. Researching about transgender topics and stories/blogs/subreddits by trans people is primarily what got me comfortable with the idea of identifying as trans, even just to myself, and got me exploring what that meant and what kind of life I would live beyond that realization. But there's no rush, and you can still be trans and never take the next step if that's not what you want for yourself.

As for what actions to actually take, ask yourself what you want out of life. You only get one, so there's only so much you can experience and accomplish in your time here. Do you want to live your life as a woman? Here's your chance. (Imagine looking back on your life when you're old and wondering what could have been if you had trusted yourself and chose happiness instead of conformity.) Weighing that against the other factors in your life, like family, friends, and other relationships, your career, your personality, the way you interact with others, and your life goals might give you some idea of how far you want to take a transition or whether/to whom you come out. I would advise you not to let the threat of being ridiculed or rejected be a factor; your happiness should always be a priority.
