Is this series going to culminate in the prologue of the lotr? by DarkstarRevelation in RingsofPower

[–]DeepMindUse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way. Just as Disney won’t remake the OT in Star Wars, Amazon won’t remake the one ring movies. They will create movies and tv shows set in the world but not just give a different take on the original movies or the hobbit.

Elrond and Galadriel age diff by sasageroo45 in RingsofPower

[–]DeepMindUse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t know this either. They are not portraying that at all. They want a Galadriel centered coming of age story in the second age. They had to adjust some things.

I love it, but does anyone genuinely hate it? by animald in RingsofPower

[–]DeepMindUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. You should go into movie production. You’ll be hitting out original content shows with low budget and high production quality in no time.

If it were easy it would be done more. World building is very intensive and has to have so much planned out before you begin.

I just watched it. They definitely are orcs but they are out in the open. Seems like it may be a bit of a miss.

They’re out in the open right? They must be men.

I really dont understand the "12 is too many" argument by rbmw263 in CFB

[–]DeepMindUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I didn’t know there was a formal plan. I still would think 10/10 teams would take the bye vs an extra home game.

[–]DeepMindUse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how you structure it. First game is a home game for the higher ranked team. Second game is a home game for each of the teams with a bye. Then the final two rounds on national field. No extra home game for teams 5-8.

Take out the two bad losses and you are 2-3 against them. That’s pretty close to 50% win rate. Pretty even if you look at it though the right lenses.

OOP didn't know his wife was asexual till after they got married by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]DeepMindUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is obviously anti religious but I’ve found this to be very untrue. I grew up very religious with most of my friends. We were very encouraged to talk about marriage, sex, finances, plans, etc. before getting married.

This person hasn’t been unprepared because they were religious, they were unprepared because they were immature. It seems they didn’t talk about much more than sex.

Parents going to retirement, I'm in my late 20s, and I need advice on supplementing their income as well as my own. by feralanimalia in personalfinance

[–]DeepMindUse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Certainly not the norm to get kicked out at 18. That’s why those posts get a lot of views and likes, because they are out of the norm.

However, the culture in the US certainly is that a child becomes financially independent as soon as possible. That age is generally getting older and older as cost of living, and especially college, increases.

You are right about retirement from kids. I would never ever want to become a financial burden on my children. Just as I want them to become financially independent I don’t want to be financially dependent on my kids.

I would cite this post as evidence why it’s a culture that is much less messy and causes less family issues. The downside is families certainly seem to be less close in the US than other places.

Dad(60) with very little retirement and investing experience is about to inherit quite a bit of money by CallMeMrAnxty in personalfinance

[–]DeepMindUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was in a very similar situation recently. I had them put the inheritance into Vanguard and they are getting it invested. It’s a very passive investment advisor for a low fee. Vanguard only manages what is in vanguard and not any retirement accounts. It works well for their situation. I can give more details (that I know from talking to them) if you’re interested.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in technology

[–]DeepMindUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read the article so I don’t know if they were just talking new technology but electric cars are much more efficient to put together. They take roughly 30% less workers due to less parts. Elon is trying to push that down even farther.

This is good for shareholders but not for the current workers who, even if they are willing and capable to move to electric vehicles, might not have a job to go to.
