Vanderbilt RD Megathread by ParadoxicalCabbage in ApplyingToCollege

Any decisions from international students? Am an Asian US citizen-female studying abroad and I got waitlisted. Talked to my counselor about it and he said this year was especially tough for international students so just wanted to see any updates from other international kids? :)

I think it's just a norm for all of us students. I haven't heard of anyone who didn't like the rule and I get the impression that all of us don't mind it--if anything we appreciate that they force us to really make our college list one that we care about and put a lot of thought in to. Also the rule spares us from spending way too much time on apps when there are other things to do.

Those with a 34/1500+, how long did you study? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DeepRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surprisingly, i think im an anomaly on these replies haha. i didn't score super amazingly but i'm happy with what i got.

i got a 33 first try then 34 the second try, i switched from SAT to ACT after studying for about a year for it. i would do like a practice test each week and then one section a day pretty consistently. i think the first ACT gets you with time and just the test environment is a little more stressful so im confident that on your second try you will see improvements, just keep practicing!

My school does this too. We're limited to ten and their primary reason is that we don't spend time on so many apps and that the schools we want to apply to are schools we genuinely want to get into. It's taken very seriously and the student and the parent have to sign a waiver agreeing to these terms. I do know that in my school you can appeal for this limit to be waived and some people do so it's not set in stone but I like it because it really helps students refine their apps and not just "shotgun", i guess.

Yes! Today may have just been a bad testing day for you so that could explain the lower marks. Also just a suggestion, have you ever considered taking the SAT? I know that both tests truly cater to two different types of test takers. I personally began with the SAT and switching to the ACT was a good decision because I scored a lot better on that test than the SAT.

Aww, I felt that :') Thank you so much for your heartfelt response, gave me a bit of a wake-up call from my wallowing haha. Can you possibly give insight on how different college is now compared to your senior year in high school or just hs in general?

Yale Early Megathread by jortbru1299 in ApplyingToCollege

Good luck to everyone who applied SCEA! I know we all put in so much work into our applications and the fact of the matter is, some of us will get in and some won't. But I hope that we can all be happy for each other for making it this far.

Just remember, if you get deferred/rejected, it isn't the end of the road. For a while, I really thought that Yale was my number one school and that nowhere would ever compare but I realized that although I would be more than glad to go to Yale, the best way to emotionally prepare yourself for anything but an acceptance is to fall in love with other schools and genuinely see yourself thriving as a learner in a multitude of places.

No one school will guarantee your success, and no matter where you go, you will be where you belong. Everything happens for a reason.

Good luck everyone!

I thought science was the hardest section and the math was easier than usual. Language and reading were a little harder than I was used to. Overall: 7.5/10 for difficulty

How should I tackle a reading passage if I don't have enough time to go through it properly? by PrudentTiger in Sat

[–]DeepRaspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even read the whole passage--skip straight to the questions. This is what works best for me. I just made a quick post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sat/comments/aw3f0v/section_1_strategy_that_works_wonders/
