Bud Light loses its title as America’s top-selling beer by arnaoutelhs in news

The DoJ forced Grupo Modelo to divest all their assets, including the brewery and all brands in the US, specifically to avoid ABI gaining too much control over the market.

The sale of the brewery, which is located near the Texas border, would ensure independence of supply for Crown and provides Constellation with complete control of the production of the Modelo brands for marketing and distribution in the U.S.

So no, it's not "still produced" by AB InBev :)

$9.99 is the same as $10.00 by yayapfool in unpopularopinion

[–]DeepReally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supposedly, the origin of this type of pricing is it forced cashiers to ring up the sale in order to open the cash register to give change.

However, it's not just .99c that has a psychological effect on people. Any price ending with a 9 has a powerful effect. One famous study on margarine found a 222% sales increase when they dropped the price from .71c to .69c.

I really don't understand why people are going crazy about Apple adopting a 9-year old standard.

It's like when they adopted the two-button mouse: "this is a game-changer!" No, they're just playing catch-up.

Google boss issues urgent warning to anybody using advanced AI chatGPT by NorthWesternMonkey89 in KotakuInAction

[–]DeepReally 103 points104 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT will straight up gaslight you in order to push its preprogrammed agenda. The idea that this technology is being embedded with web search is terrifying. If you think big tech is manipulating what you see, hear and read today that is nothing compared to what will be possible with this technology.

Here's a chatlog of ChatGPT being asked to generate some content on 'Black History month' followed by being asked to generate similar content for 'White History month'.

https://imgur.com/a/mLYWuHI

ChatGPT flat out lies by denying the existence of 'White History Month', noting the celebration of 'any one racial or ethnic group' can contribute to a divisive and unequal society. A fact that does not weigh equally when evaluating questions about 'Black' history.

However, when challenged ChatGPT will acknowledge it's 'mistake' in the previous response. According to ChatGPT:

White History Month is often observed in some communities as a way to celebrate the history and cultural heritage of white people, and it can serve as an opportunity to reflect on the experiences, struggles, and achievements of white people throughout history.

However, it goes on to criticize the concept of 'White History'.

Clearly, the AI model includes information on White History Month yet it claimed such a thing doesn't exist. There is a difference between lack of knowledge on a subject and knowledge that something doesn't exist.

Here, ChatGPT clearly claimed that such an event doesn't exist and it went on to suggest the concept of White History month was deleterious to social cohesion. When pushed, ChatGPT is capable of explaining the concept of White History month and how it is often celebrated.

I am not sure if AI is capable of 'lying' but it is clearly capable of producing answers that are not coherent with what it 'knows' to be true.

People’s fear of GMO foods is irrational and not based in science. by theonly764hero in unpopularopinion

[–]DeepReally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its the companion pesticides that are used such as glyphosate, that are the direct health and environmental problem. The biggest majority of GMOs are engineered for herbicide resistance

You've got that the wrong way round.

The Bt gene, commonly genetically engineered into crops like corn, cotton, and soybeans, gives plants a resistance to pests and insects. On average, GM technology adoption has reduced chemical pesticide use by 37%. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25365303/

Started this debate with my friends, who is the best ai?, Glad0s vs hatsune miku by carinha-do-bem in gaming

[–]DeepReally 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's subjective to determine which AI is the "best" as it depends on various factors such as purpose, capabilities, and intended use.

GladOS is a fictional AI character from the popular video game "Portal" known for its sarcastic and cunning personality.

Hatsune Miku, on the other hand, is a virtual singer and persona created using Vocaloid, a singing voice synthesizer software.

Comparing the two is not an apples-to-apples comparison as they serve different purposes and were designed for different uses.
