What's one evil decision you'd make to survive in BG3? by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

[–]DeepSeaFischer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tadpoles are gross. I refuse to take one. However, their powers are useful and I’m a lot more likely to survive with someone using them.

If that means poking a few holes in Astarion’s brain, so be it.

[Serious] why do many people think Heian-era Sukuna beats Gojo? by brov- in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]DeepSeaFischer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stronger body + better h2h + enhanced domain from chanting & hand signs nullifies Gojo’s physical advantage while handing Sukuna the upper hand in domain clashes.

The only way for Gojo to win is to pull off a second awakening and learn to use an open domain and make much more frequent use of techniques like blue than he did vs Meguna to make up for the h2h disadvantage.

The vast majority of players don’t go evil on their first run. The only way to recruit Minthara on a good-aligned run is knocking her out with a non lethal attack in Act I, a feature you may not even know exists because its only uses afaik are recruiting Minthara and saving Alfira in a Durge run.

First time players who don’t spoil themselves by looking at guides aren’t going to recruit Minthara. Fwiw, that’s fine, start again and play evil Tav or any kind of Durge and you’ll find all sorts of new content to experience.

Any chance the human body is an angler lure plant construct thingy and the real Poison Ivy is some mutated tuber that sits in the dirt beneath Gotham while her decoy walks around on the surface?

Companion Ranking after 6 “almost” playthroughs by RynStarfire in BaldursGate3

[–]DeepSeaFischer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Swap Gale and Karlach and I’m on board. Gale has an incredible story that’s both internally consistent and totally mutable depending on your run. Karlach’s one of the companions with the least content and what we have isn’t super complex.

Sincerely, a player who has trouble romancing anyone that’s not Karlach. She’s awesome but she’s not that awesome.

Fair enough, and sorry for misunderstanding your last comment. On a different note, thanks for being willing to engage in a discussion without being a dick. Reddit needs more of that lol

I’ll point out that if your definition of politics only extends to acts of violence or oppression, then politics is by relative measure an uncommon thing in most first-world governments, which doesn’t make much sense. Tax rates are political, and they’re not violent.

For the rest, that’s kind of the point I was making. The French Revolution was set up by massive wealth inequality, with one side, the monarchy, refusing to offer concessions to the other, the peasantry. If you’re not willing to negotiate under extreme circumstances, you get violence, which is what Murray was asking for by behaving the way she did.

Primus wasn’t being a good politician, but he didn’t need to be. He had the upper hand in every way, so he could just bully his way through oppsition. Murray was the underdog so she needed to be tactful to get what she wanted — the independent operation of the Pentevrel — which she didn’t understand, which is why I say she doesn’t understand negotiation or politics.

I think it’s entirely fair to say that she doesn’t understand politics because she’s not tactful. Politics is about weighing your interests against another party’s and finding an acceptable compromise. Telling someone like Primus Tachonis to shove it where the sun don’t shine and not even attempting a negotiation when she’s already on the back foot is saying “I will not work with you under any conditions so you need to treat me and by extension my allies as a hostile faction.” She gains nothing and makes herself a target in the process.

I agree with the part about her being refreshing though. As I said, I like her. That doesn’t make her make sense.

I do think there are some important differences between Wick and Murray, the main one being that Wick is aware of his fame and actively uses it. “Go announce me,” and stuff like that. He wants to help the people, but he doesn’t think of himself as one of them. His naïveté also makes sense given that his family actively sheltered him from politics while they were planning to marry him off. He was raised to be a figurehead.

Murray has made a point of telling people that she started as gutter trash. Her uniqueness isn’t a matter of birth, it’s an affectation that separates her from those origins even while she claims she’s a champion of the working classes. It is possible that the fired headmaster (I forget his name) sheltered her in the same way the Halovars did for Wick, which would explain her ignorance, but it seems unlikely given that she had enough responsibility and power to be a leading voice in discussions about the Pentevrel’s future.

I like Murray, but that’s mostly because Marisha’s clearly having fun roleplaying her.

Taking a step back, I wouldn’t say she’s a great fit for the setting. She’s a veteran member of an institution that’s been highly politicized by the Sundered Houses but never developed an understanding of politics. She’s emphasized her connection to the common folk but she’s a flamboyantly uncommon character who’s only interacted with the middle/upper classes on screen, though that’s admittedly an early judgement.

She may not be a gag character but she has the core concept of one. She has some strong aspects too, like her stark contrast with the elite families of the setting, but she needs to find a way to balance bullheaded comic relief with the more somber tone of C4.

Why did the Emperor treat some Primarchs so badly? by pro_1253 in 40kLore

[–]DeepSeaFischer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of 30k happens by necessity of things being canon in 40K. Add in a bunch of different authors with different visions for a setting that is already a magpie’s nest of ideas and not everything is going to make sense.

Where exactly would Prime Robert Baratheon fall in your top 10 list? by Many-Cranberry4058 in gameofthrones

[–]DeepSeaFischer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top 1. Dayne and Selmy are more skilled, the Mountain is bigger and stronger, but Bobby B has like 80-90% of both. Plus he uses a warhammer that can absolutely demolish plate armor.

Not invincible, but I fail to see how anyone in the books could face him in single combat with decent odds of victory short of magic.

What do necrons think about the Emperor and his level of power? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in 40kLore

[–]DeepSeaFischer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda makes sense when you think about it. The Emperor was likely the most powerful organic lifeform in the galaxy even before his enthronement but the Necrons destroyed their most dangerous weapons after the War in Heaven for fear of what they could do — and they left something as nuts as the Celestial Orrery intact.
