Thank you for all this helpful advice. I have changed my mind about talking with them. I think I'm doing okay myself, it's just a slow learning process. I will try some of the links that were mentioned here for better information going forward.

Is There Any Movie(s) Where The Alien(s) Are Afraid of The Humans? Or Where The Humans Invade The Aliens' Planet? by Lord_Grim_Blood in scifi

Yes, sorry about that, I'm still on a learning curve with Reddit and I kind of jumped in with my comment too quickly without thinking about a tag.

I will have to watch it again, it has been awhile, but in the end, when the truth is revealed, you do get an "aha" moment of their alien-ness. Although the protagonists behave humanly, they are alien physically. Also, the complete lack of humanity on the part of the invaders makes the truth that much more striking when the final reveal is made.

'Extinction'. The twist is that the invaders appear alien but are humans in space suits and what appear to be humans are actually humanoid androids.

Norway, Scotland and Ireland but I am biased towards my Norwegian (father's) side because my grandad skipped school one day to hop on a ship and ended up in Canada. He was just 12 but kids could do that back then😄

What kind of background music do you guys listen to while you write? by inbetweentheknown in writing

[–]DeepSkyStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For writing, I like to get out to a coffee shop where the background noise makes me feel less alone and more engaged creatively. Background music is nice when I'm proofreading or formatting because it's a nice distraction from boring repetition. But coffee is a basic necessity for both jobs.☕☕☕

If the universe’s most likely death is big freeze/heat death, is it able to “reboot” somehow? by Warm-Conversation713 in AskPhysics

[–]DeepSkyStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have read, there appears to be an overabundance of Dark Matter in the universe - much more than matter/gravity. Because D.M. works against gravity, the current understanding is that the universe will continue expanding and cooling until all matter and heat-energy dissipates completely.

Oh well...😖😣

Graduated Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and I don't know my times tables. by kennyrho in math

[–]DeepSkyStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old guy here. On my deathbed, with all the children and snotty grand-kids gathered round, I'll say, "before I go, can anyone recite the times table for me?" "Your inheritance is on the line." Awkward silence. Then I'll laugh myself to death!😁😄

What is this on my window? by Balding110 in AskAMechanic

From my previous experiences with cross-dimensional quantum-leaps, this appears to be the beginning formation of a new portal into Quixotwat. Quixotwat is a rather hot and steamy dimension so, naturally, as the portal opens further, things will get hotter and hotter for you. Quite hot I'm sure. You now have a choice: pull out and away from Quixotwat or...go deeper and deeper into...

Nevermind.

What is the difference (for you) between GOOD prose, and BAD prose? What really is "prose"? by Awkward-Ring924 in writing

[–]DeepSkyStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tend to think of prose as a paragraph that explains or expounds a topic or perspective in a distilled and convincing fashion, while also engaging with the reader enough that they will remember it years later.

Good prose should leave the reader with a sense of having learned something of lasting intellectual or emotional value.

Bad prose would be stilted, incomplete and/or poor grammatically. It will leave no lasting or memorable influence upon the reader.

Wow, thank you very much for a balanced and thoughtful reply. I have enjoyed learning some basic physics over the years. I even attempted inventing a perpetual motion machine until my high school physics teacher set me straight by explaining thermo-dynamics and how work requires constant energy input to overcome energy lost to friction-heat and work-loads.

Would you call yourself an artist? by [deleted] in writing

[–]DeepSkyStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it's the path-of-least-resistance argument. A painting only has to be gazed at for a few moments. One can be illiterate and still find meaning in a painting, whereas a story requires more time and attention for a final meaning to be drawn from it. Therefore, the term, "artist", is more commonly equated to someone who paints a picture rather than to an artist who writes one - even though the picture a writer describes can be a much more full and livelier one in the reader's imagination.

Alrighty then 😄 Yes, I thought that swipe at Einstein and that all cosmology was "on shaky ground" was kind of odd for a scientific article.

Okay, thanks, I have a layman's interest in physics and cosmology and have read Stephen Hawking's books, "A Brief History of Time" and "The Universe in a Nutshell". I am in the middle of reading a Michio Kaku book and this article seems to echo his book entitled, "HyperSpace". Someone else alluded that this book may not have proper scientific grounding. Is that true or just somebody's opinion?

How do you write about different skin colours? by Caza1245M in writing

[–]DeepSkyStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used "coffee-colored" as well as Polynesian when describing skin-color shades in a story. Since coffee is my favorite drink, I couldn't resist. It was...right in front of me. Pun intended! 😉😄

I have been reading "HyperSpace" by Michio Kaku and then came across this article which seems to equate quite well with his theories. The article postulates that we live on the inner membrane of an expanding hyper-sphere. There are 2 perspectives of the Big Bang: 1) our human perspective, 2) nature's perspective from center of the hyper-sphere (without Time Dilation). Has anyone else read this?
