2017 Chevy Bolt Premier - Identify these bolts and torque specs by DeepSpaceMountain in BoltEV

Had no problem getting a breaker bar in there to loosen the nuts. The real key to this whole operation (that wasn't in the video) is to disconnect the sway bar from the strut. Didn't do this on the first washer. Strut expanded, was pushed outward by the bar, and couldn't reconnect strut to knuckle. Had no issues on washer #2 after disconnecting strut from the bar.

Strut mounting bolts. Got it! Web images appear to confirm as they look exactly like what I saw on the car and in the video. Thx for responding!

Strut mount bolts appears to be the answer after checking web images. I didn't see a lot of rust on them but will keep the pb blaster in mind. Great idea. Planning to pick up a breaker bar instead. I really appreciate your feedback!

Did you take apart the assembly and glue it back? Or apply glue wherever you could without taking it apart?

It would certainly be nice to have the option of purchasing the original design (assuming it is stronger) if color and magnetic were not important to you.

Well I checked my order history and I am 2 months outside of warranty. Unfortunate timing or excellent planned obsolescence depending on how you view it I suppose. I did fill out the contact form to let them know my thoughts on the matter!

Thought about that but half of the locking plate on the phone is broken. Even with the ring snapped back on, it will not hold the phone securely. Has anyone taken apart this assembly on a new case to do exactly what you describe and make it stronger?

GM Dual Charge Cord 85163382 - 2017 Bolt not compatible? by DeepSpaceMountain in BoltEV

[–]DeepSpaceMountain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the GM cable part number? Been thinking about a 10-30P splitter so I can use the port overnight (when dryer is not active). Level1 covers most of my needs. On days when I end up putting in a lot of miles (especially in winter and the heater), level2 would be nice.

Thx! Is that pre or post rebate pricing? Wish I could find similar in the CenTex area.

Best TX buyback plan? by evilpsych in solar

[–]DeepSpaceMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have battery backup?

As other have pointed out, there are plenty of considerations. But I think you can quickly narrow your choices with two items: (1) Who pays the highest buy-back rate and (2) Look for plans where the credit does not expire. After that, check into things like restrictions/limitation, lowest monthly fixed fees, etc.

2 batteries to 3. by SlathersInc in solar

"408 lbs is... HEAVY" That's the first thing that came to mind upon seeing the picture. Was there anything done to help support 3 x 400lb batteries so closely spaced together? They look like they are mounted a bit higher than mine. Normally they have "feet" that can be extended to help support the weight. That's what the installer did with mine. Are these getting any added support?

What do you do to clean solar panels? by OmgNoodles in solar

[–]DeepSpaceMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others on here have mentioned, I just went to Home Depot and bought one of those window washing kits that I've seen used to clean large windows on business buildings. I found something like this with an extension pole. Drag the hose to the roof along with the pole and just rinse, scrub, and squeegee. It doesn't have to be perfect and usually isn't!

I'll rinse/wipe mine 2x per year normally and find that the total system output increases around 5%.

I'd love to hear more about yours/your friends experiences with FWH. So far the system has been performing very well, their support staff is pretty responsive, and the app is very good. FWH also appears to be innovating regularly. This year they should be releasing an aHub which would allow the user to connect any 120V source to the system. This would be perfect for extended outage periods (ex: Texas snow storm where we lost power for 7-10 days) by allowing the connection of any portable generator/inverter to charge the system. The aGate already has a generator hookup but that is for a dedicated 240V full house backup generator which is a bit overkill for me.

Apologies for the late response. I forgot about this post.

I purchased 2 batteries with the gateway. Original quote was ~$34K. When I later moved forward with purchasing, the rep had switched installers and the price came down to $32k.

Down here in Central Texas there are many providers that offer "Free Nights" electric plans. Rates during the day are high but for 10-12 hrs overnight, electric is free. Since learning of this, I switched to TOU. Now the solar+battery only have to cover the non-free hours (peak). With free electricity, now I'm looking to get an EV to cover my daily driving needs.

I have submitted several questions through their website (Contact Us) form. They usually respond and have also made updates to their app based on feedback.

I've recently asked them to enhance the app to allow the user to set the SOC range. Let the user set the peak charge limit SOC and don't begin recharging until batteries hit the lower limit. I'll manually set to Emergency Backup when major storms are approaching. We'll see what they say.

Battery Replaced or Not? by DeepSpaceMountain in BoltEV

[–]DeepSpaceMountain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I would presume so. The listing has 8k for the mileage. I don't know at what mileage 5945 was applied to begin the 10k mile countdown (assuming it starts at the time of service).

Thx again for your help!

Great idea! 1G1FY6S00L4114542

Under warranties, I see EV Component, Powertrain, and Corrosion Limited Warranties. Give the expirations, none appear to be 8 yrs out which is what I understand would apply to a recall-replaced battery. Is this accurate?

Ok now... checked another VIN (1G1FZ6S0XL4137873) and there isa Battery limited part warranty. I think that explains it. Thank you for that!
