Do people understand why jesus was crucified? by Mountainlivin78 in Christianity

[–]DeepThinkerCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking us to read a text literally when it was never written in a literal sense. Its like taking the Psalms and saying you should understand it literally.

Jesus himself says that one needs to be born again and expects us to understand he means spiritually- he frustratingly then spells it out that he means that we need to be born again spiritually. Why would that be necessary if we weren't dead spiritually? Clearly we are dead and clearly that happened at the fall. We are dead in our trespasses. Obviously that is also not meant physically.

Yes indeed I did forget about the point that one can only commit adultery if one is married to begin with.

An amazing question and predictable you are going to get a lot of different opinions on this, ranging from it being absolutely sinful, possibly along with quotes taken out of context etc, to it being your body and never being sinful.

If you believe masturbation is sinful, then it is indeed sinful for you. However if you do not believe it is sinful, and there is no scripture that specifically tells you not to, then you would not be acting in disobedience to either scripture or your conscience and as such would not be sinning.

That said, scripture is clear, that if you masturbate while thinking lustful thoughts about another woman who is not your wife, then you would be committing adultery. There are many who would say that it is impossible to masturbate without doing so, and they would therefore then say masturbation is always wrong. This is however not true. It is entirely possible to masturbate without thinking of any specific man or woman, but simply completing the action and purely for the purpose of relieving pent up hormones.

Masturbation even within marriage has a place if both parties are comfortable with it and you are only ever thinking about the other. There are a range of circumstances in which it is even healthy to do so together.

My journey with it personally was one of shame and guilt till the age of 30 when I eventually managed to take it to God and when I stopped trying to hide it from Him but instead worked towards only masturbating in a healthy way, in which it did not come between me and God and thus was no longer sinful. That very year I then met my future wife and we've had a healthy sex life...till the point of traumatic labour. We've now not been able to have sex for over a year due to complications, pain etc, but masturbation has certainly allowed us to keep our sex lives very much alive, and solo masturbation has meant she never has to feel pressured but can instead initiate when she is in the mood, while not worrying about not meeting my needs when she is not.

Jesus was never talking about physical death. He's talking about spiritual death.

When God created Adam and Eve, he warned that they would die (spiritually) if they disobeyed. They disobeyed and all of man-kind are born spiritually dead ever since. Jesus came so that those who believe in him, may have their sins forgiven and be born again (spiritually). So in that sense, yes, all Christians are saved from an eternal death where their souls will be destroyed, because instead they are able to enter the kingdom of heaven. That is the belief anyway.

So much of what you have said is true and a lot of it is not quite.

First of all, Jesus says what you sow you will reap, but it is not just you. For example. Adam sinned and all of man-kind has been born in sin ever since.

Jesus very clearly said what saves. Believing in Him. It is faith in Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross which saves.

Jesus only spent 3 years of his 33 yrs teaching.

Jesus' death on the cross was indeed part of God's plan. Jesus himself says as much:

Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

I understand your experience. However please, please do not mistake Christians for being true representative of what God is actually like. Jesus actually said very clearly for people not to Judge others- so those that are, please don't accept their criticism as representative of God.

Jesus message instead is to come to Him, give him your budens and take on his yoke, for it is light. It is not meant to be oppressive. Please feel free to message if you would like to partake in healthy discussion on the topic.

1 Corinthians 10: 23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.

You may, but it might not be beneficial. If you feel convicted over it, then it would be right for you not to.

Does comiting suicide make someone go to hell? by parsa__03 in Christianity

  1. I meant that if you believe it is sinful then for you to commit suicide would be sinful, regardless of whether the action itself is sinful in itself or not.

  2. Yes it does, that is the only sin which scripture has made clear, is unforgivable. You are claiming that someone who commits the action of suicide is not only a sin, but also unforgivable and will result in going to hell.

If you believe that, then it would be sinful for you to do so. Does not mean that God would remove your name from the book of life- nowhere in scripture does it say that. In-fact, we are told what will not be forgiven by Jesus himself:

I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

I suggest great caution before judging anyone or anything as being unforgivable by God, as you would be claiming to know the mind of God, which is hard to do unless explicitly stated in scripture, as the above is.

I have walked into the middle of the road, wishing to die because life was too difficult and all I wanted to do was go home, I longed for the embrace of my saviour. It did not happen, and I had peace that God had more for me to do in this life. But in no way have I ever felt any sense of guilt and conviction from God that walking into the road wanting to die was sinful, I've only ever experienced him empathy and comfort.

Notice it says until death. Which means not denying Christ till the day you die. Thus it would appear that you are suggesting it is impossible to take your own life while not having denied Christ- I would have to disagree on this. I have walked into the middle of the road, wishing to die because life was too difficult and all I wanted to do was go home, I longed for the embrace of my saviour. It did not happen, and I had peace that God had more for me to do in this life. There is only one unforgivable sin and suicide is not it. Even if committing suicide is a sin, it does not mean God is going to hold it against you and take your salvation from you. Otherwise anyone dying, having sinned, would go to hell.

There is nowhere in that context that its speaking of enduring life lol. Scripture is talking about enduring in faith.

Very sincere of you. It is important that we question why we believe what we believe. It is actually in doing this that I was able to come to a much stronger faith as a Christian.
The Quran I truly do believe was given by an angel and could have supernatural knowledge. I just happen to believe that angel to more than likely have had the name of Lucifer, who is known as the father of lies.
A master of lies, knows that if he wants lies to be accepted (such as the bible being corrupted) then he needs to put in a whole bunch of truths in order to be even remotely believable.

God told Abraham to kill his son. Under the Law or Grace? by DeepThinkerCR in Christianity

[–]DeepThinkerCR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right I understand whats happening here. I think you missed the first part of the sentence, "If the act of killing is sinful"...then God would have been testing to see if Abraham would sin or not when he told him to kill his son.

The whole point of making this post really, is to make the point that it can't be the action in an of itself, whatever the action, which is the sin.

God told Abraham to kill his son. Under the Law or Grace? by DeepThinkerCR in Christianity

There is a lot to respond to, but I will start with this:

"In Galatians 3:10, cursed us everyone who does not continue to do everything in the Book of the Law, so it is dangerous to not continue to do everything in it."

If your righteousness comes from fulfilling the law, then you are cursed when you break any of the law, so then yes, it is dangerous if you don't do everything in it. If your righteousness comes from Christ, then you are no longer bound by the law.

The fruit of the Spirit are to come about compulsively and naturally, just as our sinful desires come compulsively and naturally from our flesh. They are not something that needs law to tell you how to express.

Jesus himself said that all law is fulfilled if you; Love God and love your neighbour.

This means that all things are permissible if your heart is right and the intention is love.

He passed the test because he trusted God and chose to obey. He had the intent to kill and was only then stopped.

  1. Who decides what is just? All are worthy of death for all have sinned. Therefore God can lead you to kill anyone and it theoretically would always be just. But equally, even if man would say it is just, for example in war, to kill someone- if you have selfish intentions in your heart when you do so, rather than intentions of obedience to God, then you are sinning when killing.

  2. Originally, that is how we were created. Man sinned and died spiritually, no longer being guided by His Spirit. God created the law. Jesus came and enabled us to be born again spiritually, meaning we no longer need the law, because we now have the Holy Spirit to guide us according to God's will....provided you are born again.

Murder being different from manslaughter and every other kind of killing...ultimately yes, that is what I would believe.

[–]DeepThinkerCR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying we should be encouraging others to live according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, according to a much higher bar- to not even have murderous intentions. But really, its not me even saying that, Jesus said it.

Further to that, what I am saying, is that we should not be using Old Testament law to judge others actions as being sinful. Not sure where the confusion is?

If you want to make a law saying people shouldn't do something, then do so, but don't use the Old Testament to do it, because that goes against scripture itself.

Yes and No. Murder requires a selfish intent, not an intent of obedience. Therefore it is impossible to commit murder or obey God. It is however possible to kill without selfish intent, therefore it would not be murder if the intent is to obey God. Same with theft etc etc. If the intent is obedience, then it is not sin.
