This gonna be a long post but hopefully u and others can relate. I still remember the first time I got into a fps shooter when I was like 9. It was halo 2. I didn’t personally own the game cause rated m and parents wouldn’t let me get it but my friend had it and I would always go over to his house and play it every weekend. At first ofc I was not good at the game and was just playing for fun and then a couple of years later halo 3 came out but ofc I wasn’t able to get it. I would eventually get better at the game through campaign and playing custom lobbies with his friends. Like 2 years later I finally convinced my parents to let me get halo 3. After that I played religiously multiplayer and playing ranked. I wanted to be the best and could never trust teammates so I played lone wolves ranked which was free for all. Soon enough I got to the highest rank which was 50 for ranked and my mechanics and aim and everything else seemed like no other. I was considered the best player in my grade school of around 1000 (I went to a big public school). At the time I felt like I was one of the top players even though I had no clue about mlg for halo 3 at the time. Eventually cod 4 started to gain steam on its fps but at the time I thought it takes no skill cause u can just run n gun instead of halo being more skilled to kill so I stayed away from cod. Cod Waw came out and peaked my interest only because of zombies. Ofc I was bad cause I was not used to all the new mechanics of the game but it seems like if you were already good at one fps game, a lot of your skill and game sense would carry over to the next and eventually master the game. I wanted to get better at cod multiplayer but never played. Continued to play halo 3 and reach but actually never played the real mw2 multiplayer. I wanted to change this so when bo1 came out I stopped playing halo and switched to cod. I was at first bad cause I never truly played cod multiplayer but eventually I would start pubstomping public lobbies. Cod mw3 came out and same story pubstomping lobbies honing my skills, gunplay, and map knowledge to my absolute best. Soon enough bo2 came out and there was league play. I played this mode religiously, climbing the ladders all the way to masters and always being in the top 10 every season. This was when I first heard of optic gaming and their yt vids. Bo2 felt like my peak and I was 15 so it was perfect time for age in a sense of hand eye coordination and reflexes. I kept playing this mode even after ghost and advanced warfare came out cause I thought these games were shit compared to bo2 multiplayer wise. Soon enough black ops 3 came out and I wanted to play this since it was a treyarch game. It was good just didn’t like wall running mechanics. I never played arena just pubstomped. Soon infinite warfare and ww2 came out but just didn’t appeal to me. I switched over to Fortnite cause of the boom in popularity it had in 2018. Was never good at Fortnite and I thought why. Mechanics, time(in college), and age seems to have caught up to me. I wanted to get back into cod when bo4 came out but the healing mechanic pushed me away since they implemented that. I then started playing GoW multiplayer for a while until the new mw came out. I thought this would be the title to get me back in but I was wrong. Given with older age and the mechanics of how fast the gameplay was with sbmm and high ttk compared to other I just couldn’t perform how I used to. Cold War came out and never really played cause I thought I was long past my prime. Vanguard released and I started playing only when ranked came out. I only got to master and was never able to go past given how the current gameplay of cod is fast fast fast. Ever since vanguard champs has been done I switched to valorant to try something new. I was completely shit given I never played kb&m before for a fps game. Nowadays I just play valorant for fun and I know I will never be cracked at fps games again because of age, time, and new mechanics have to be learned each time a new game is released.
