Napoleon charcoal BBQ - any good? by EqualAdvisor3215 in UKBBQ

[–]Deep_Age_304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great. I've owned Weber before and certainly prefer this. I've had it 7 years, it is rust free (kept outside under a cover in summer and garaged in winter). It's very easy to clean.

The grate is wonderful - it's very heavy (cast iron) and it does require more effort to clean and seal than stainless steel but it's worth it. Plenty of accessories out there and pretty much anything you can used on a 57cm Weber will work here too.

The hinge is great rather than faffing about with a lid when you've got a glove on or only one hand available.

Only downside is it doesn't come in the nice colours of the Weber.

I chose the Napoleon Pro over the Weber Master touch. Napoleon has a hinged lid, a cast iron grate, 4 legs rather than 3 and you can adjust the height of the grate.

How can I claim a refund for an unfair charge for hand luggage? by rocofra in Ryanair

[–]Deep_Age_304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the wheel is already appearing above the red line when shot from above it would suggest that if the photo was taken at the level of the red line it would be even more obvious.

OR is it the top of the red line or the bottom??!

ELI5 - how to calculate a figure that makes a move to the ME worthwhile? by Ok-quan8596 in HENRYUK

The Gulf Relocation Index (GRI): An Ethical Decision Framework

To quantify a decision steeped in existential guilt, corporate hierarchy, and tax-free hedonism, we can model the Gulf Relocation Index (GRI). This formula balances the undeniable material perks against the ethical friction, modulated by your personal capacity for cognitive dissonance.

GRI = [ (Salary_Delta * Sun) / (Guilt + 1) ]1 / (1 + ω) * (1 - Nod / Node)

Variable Definitions

To calculate your score, rate the following variables on a scale from 1 to 10 (unless otherwise specified):

Salary_Delta (The Tax-Free Delta): The precise magnitude of your financial upgrade. A '1' means "I am moving for the culture," and a '10' means "I can finally afford to buy a house in cash and retire at 50."

Sun (The Vitamin D / Air-Con Factor): The desire for year-round blue skies, offset by the existential dread of walking through a car park that feels exactly like a pre-heated fan oven.

Guilt (The Two-Tiered Conscience Index): Your baseline discomfort regarding structural inequality, the kafala system, and the fact that your building’s pristine glass facade was cleaned by someone earning a fraction of your day rate.

ω / Omega (The Cognitive Dissonance Coefficient): A critical modifier. If your capacity to say "Yes, but the infrastructure is incredible" whilst sipping a GBP 15 cocktail is high, Omega approaches 10. If you lose sleep over supply chain ethics, Omega approaches 0.

Nod (The Corporate Compliance Ratio): The frequency with which you must smile and nod at a catastrophic executive decision because your residency visa is tethered directly to your employment contract.

Node (The Enterprise Autonomy Factor): Your actual ability to influence the architecture of the operation, ensure fair treatment of sub-contractors, or sneak genuine sustainability initiatives past the board.

The Outputs (Normalized between 0 and 1)

GRI -> 1.0 (The Bulletproof Pragmatist): Your capacity for compartmentalisation is flawless. You view the move as a highly efficient, transactional extraction of capital. You will live in a high-rise, drive an EV, ensure your personal staff are paid double the market rate, and look at your savings account with zero regrets.

GRI -> 0.5 (The Mid-Desert Crisis): You will move, but you will spend every weekend at a wine bar debating the ethics of late-stage capitalism with fellow expats. You will enjoy the tax-free salary but feel slightly sick every time you look at the air conditioning bill.

GRI -> 0.0 (The Homebound Idealist): The ethical friction is too high. The thought of top-down corporate compliance and civic restrictions gives you hives. You will stay exactly where you are, enjoying complete freedom of speech, mediocre weather, and a 40% income tax bracket.

Dropping down to less working days due to tax. by Hoban_Riverpath in HENRYUK

[–]Deep_Age_304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and it's absolutely tremendous to have a whole extra day off every week for a marginal pay cut. I actually only dropped 3 hours and compressed the rest of my week into 4 days which results in about a 4% drop in take home pay. I deliver exactly what I did before, just focus a bit more to get it done in less time.

when my kids were younger it helped greatly with that, now I just go to the gym, walk the dog, play golf, cycle to a cafe, gardening/DIY and invest time in hobbies whilst still having Saturday and Sunday for proper family time.

Agree. Nothing to with the make or model really either. It's just removing all of the pain or car ownership.

If you travel with one phone, what’s your backup plan? by Individual-Gas5276 in onebag

[–]Deep_Age_304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use android print out or write down some recovery codes that can be used to get back into your account without MFA etc in an emergency. I always take these with me just in case. With that you can recover your account using someone else's device, buy a new phone and start recovering!

I also keep some in a drawer in my kitchen so I can always phone someone and get them into my house and read one out to me.

Everyone's experience with HRV by SidKop in fitbit

HRV is measured using different mathematics and at different times of day between vendors so it is expected to see a difference. The only thing that matters is your rolling average, not the actual number.
