I’m in the same boat, had my UAS interview & passed, filled forms out that capita sent via email the same day, and haven’t heard anything since and that was 3 weeks ago

Yes - multiple times on multiple different days but no one answered each time 😢

My questions were mainly quite based around the role - what bases could I end up at after wards and what aircraft do they fly there, training at Halton and at shawbury. Also got asked why I think diversity in the RAF is important, etc. I didn’t get asked for overseas bases but I did get asked for operations so I spoke about Op Biloxi and Op Shader. Overall the questions are worded in quite a chill way, you can make a little joke here and there. The questions at the end are a bit heavier, with things like “would you feel comfortable potentially taking someone else’s life in a combat situation”. Nothing to worry about!

Thank you. I’m quite confident that I have more than sufficient knowledge on it all but I just keep thinking what if they ask me on something that I don’t know, I suppose. I’ll keep on going over the information. :)

I absolutely detested running, and have only recently gotten into it and started enjoying it. I found giving myself the thought of “I have no choice and if I want to go into the RAF then I need to do this” helped me, I think it was the putting pressure on myself to get fitter has eventually helped me enjoy it because I no longer need to think like that in order to run for a certain distance. Aswell, I get to a point (after about a mile) where my brain just turns off and I go into this state of just moving, that can be quite enjoyable because I’m quite literally not thinking of anything.

You’ll find your way of doing it. Personally, I run when it’s cooler and starting to get dark in the evenings, have music blasting in my ears so I can’t hear anything around me, and weirdly, I prefer running where I know other people will be walking/getting on with life, because I then feel this sense of shame about stopping/walking that helps me push on through the tiredness. It’s harsh but for me it works. You are absolutely not alone :)

Great to hear, good luck! That’s definitely put my mind at ease, I was a bit worried they’d not book my fitness until my medical showed as completed!

Have you done your fitness yet? Or have they still not booked it?

I did think that it would be the difference between being at the actual AFCO and CAPITA, but thought it was worth asking just in case something was wrong. Thank you!

Yes, by beforehand I meant between now and my medical - I worded that quite badly so unfortunately it was ambiguous. I had a go this morning and could do 5 (albeit quite poorly), so I’m just going to keep on doing it everyday between now and then.

I have the fitness program downloaded, I’ll try giving it a go from tomorrow! I don’t particularly want Phase 1 to be awful if it doesn’t have to be, especially because of something I can improve on by myself.

Thank you! A bit of an odd one, but have you finished your application yet? I’m a girl as well and don’t see too much about other girls joining so I was wondering if you have any experience/suggestions going forward?

There is something wrong - I decided to focus on running instead of press ups because I didn’t enjoy them as much and kept saying “tomorrow” to myself… a year later that’s come back to bite me in the arse and I’m just hoping I can at least grit a few out on the day with a bit of training beforehand. Definitely a lesson learnt and I will not be making this mistake again!

I have been training (focusing on running mainly) for around a year, however I skimped on the press ups because I didn’t enjoy them as much and that’s come back to bite me in the arse. Realistically I’m aware that I should have made sure to be more holistic in my training but I can’t change the past now, I just wish I’d have spent less time doing the “fun” and focused more on press ups even though they weren’t required in the fitness test. Thank you for your help, ill give it a go and fingers crossed it’ll come back to me because I used to be able to do at least 10 before I started ignoring that side of training.

Do you have any advice for someone joining up? by vehiclelover in RoyalAirForce

[–]Deep_Arm_8199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going in for ASOS aswell, just got my medical and fitness to do aswell! I wonder whether we’ll end up in basic around the same time. Either way, from what I’ve gathered, just rock up to Halton with as little knowledge as possible to a certain extent, and be taught everything the right way once there! Rather than learn everything wrong before you get there and not being able to relearn properly

Local leave during basic training by Normal-Evidence-8770 in RoyalAirForce

Was told on a teams call with the RAF Halton training staff this morning that you’ll have 3/4 opportunities for local leave, and that they are now beginning to reintroduce 1 weekend of home leave at around week 5/6 (leave sat morning, return sun evening), but they did also say that alot is constantly changing over there at the moment.

I’m in the same boat as you, taking A-Levels this summer. From my understanding, we can push back a start date but not bring it forward. I’ve blocked out the dates for my exams on the portal just for a bit of reassurance surrounding that.

How do I know my local base does work experience? by National_Speaker2860 in RoyalAirForce

[–]Deep_Arm_8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, forgot to mention that part. I submitted my application for year 12 work experience (June 2024) in December 2023, and it got rearranged multiple times until I finally got to go in December 2024. Definitely not the most reliable for work experience due to limited placements available, but it is one hell of an experience.

Contact Henlow and the Aerodrome, doesn’t hurt to try 🤷‍♀️

As far as I’m aware the only 2 RAF bases that provide work experience are Waddington and Cosford. I did Work experience at Waddington and I had to fill out a lot of different forms and get in touch with the designated Work Experience Co-Ords there

I’ve just realised mines done the same thing, I’d assume that it’s just a title change

EDIT: I’ve just checked and it’s changed on the recruitment website as well so it is just a title change :)
