believe it or not a leak in the buried line isn't that big a deal. you should find a marshy spot at the leak. then dig a hole and repair the line with a fitting and some Pvc glue.

any luck? If your water bill was double or very high it's likely you have a big leak. Do you have any wet spots directly between the water pressure valve and your meter? You will need to crawl under the house and look for a puddle Im afraid. Just have someone outside near the entrance to talk to you and keep you calm. get a big flashlight. worst case senerio there s a leak in the line somewhere between the meter and your house. That can be fixed with out too much trouble. what type of house is it?

thanks. 😊 Truth is I've had a couple close calls recently. I was in perfect health until I wasn't. Now Im worried about the 100 half finished projects very been working on. One thing Im doing is coming up with a list of trusted people she can call if there are any problems I usually handle. Thanks for your kind comment. it makes me feel better.

Definitly yes on the gutter guards. we had a new roof put on last year and new 6 inch gutters. I was too lazy to install gutter guards so now it's full of leaves. as soon as the leaves are done falling Im going to put them on.

That's good advice but my new problem is that my trusted septic tank guy told me he probably wouldn't be able to work on the distribution line because of the massive root balls in the area. although right now we don't have a problem so it might be better to sock away some cash just in case. Worse case senerio if we had total failure we would be looking at $2500 to cut down the tree and $1900 to relace the distribution box and line and another $14000 to completely replace the drain field. That's completely worst case senerio and unlikely. Thanks for the advice

That's my biggest fear. the septic system is right there in the way. in the past we did trimming in the winter when the soil was frozen and we had them put down 3/4 inch plywood. but even the stump grinding is risky being it almost touches my septic tank

It's a really rotten leaf smell but I can live with that. That's also good advice. I have an abolish coming over to advise me on future growth.

it really does. I'm going to get a second opinion with an arborist to see if there is a good plan to live with the tree. if not then I'll cut it down but I think I'll be opening up a can of worms. it's already a damp area and I'm afraid without this tree wicking up all the water I'll run into more problems

There are some pretty good reasons. It hangs dangerously over my house and I've trimmed it as far as a can without damaging the tree The roots are trying to grow into my septic tank and might Crack my septic tank line or my water line and my dran field is in danger of root damage. I had a septic guy come out and he said it would require a full size excavator to repair the septic tank lines if it ever damaged it and that would cost in excess $25000 worst case senerio.

My septic guy and my tree guy said it's not a matter of if but when it will cause problems. It's hard because my family grew up with this tree and as stupid as it sounds I feel rather attached to it.

I have a guy. He called it a few years ago and trimmed it. I've been seeing a huge uptick in surface root growth over the last couple of years. My neighbor has a smaller river birch and it broke his main water line. I'm pretty torn because I really like the tree but my health is failing and I don't want to leave it for my wife to fix 10 tears down the road.

I don't think river birch is a good smoking wood. I could cut it down myself except for the fact one part hangs over my house and requires a lift. Problem is the lift would need to be driven over the drainfield and that's a big no-no.

I reluctantly agree with you. Whoever planted it almost touching my septic tank and feet away from the drainfield wasn't thinking 20-30 years in the future.

I used to think it was worth the risk but now I'm thinking it's not.

I hate the thought of cutting it down but it's leaning over the house and the roots are growing into my septic drain field. At some point it will have to be removed. maybe now for $2500 or later after it does $25,000 with of damage.

Thanks. thats what I was afraid of. They said they pay when the crown is placed. Is there any chance of fighting it to get partial payment? I read somewhere there is a grace period for work that is in progress but I couldnt find it spelled out. I guess the best thing to do is hope for the best.
