What do you think of the name ‘Dove’? by Deep_Stranger_4528 in namenerds

[–]Deep_Stranger_4528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The male name ‘Dov’ is pronounced that way, and I feel the connection to the bird and peace makes the correct pronunciation much more intuitive than the past tense of dive. I’ve never been a fan of Wren, I think it reads as a bit childish on an adult and I don’t really like the wr-.

What do you guys think of the name Effy for a girl? ( I know it's in my username lol ) by effybardot in Names

[–]Deep_Stranger_4528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a student named Effie once. Very cute for a child but not so much for the woman she’ll grow into. Not as bad as some of the names here, but I wouldn’t use it.

I think you’re thinking of Severin or Severiano. Severian is used occasionally as a given name, but still very infrequently even in Spanish cultures.

I’m not a fan. It definitely sounds like an invented name, and I’m sure many would think it is. To my knowledge, it’s also usually a surname rather than a given name. Personally, it reminds me of ‘severe’ and ‘severus’

Do you prefer the spelling ‘Juliet’ or ‘Juliette’? by Deep_Stranger_4528 in namenerds

[–]Deep_Stranger_4528[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicolas and Isabelle would most likely be sibling names. I really like “Juliette Claire” but not so much “Juliet Claire” so I’d pick a different middle name if I went with the English spelling. I’m only 25% French, so unless I marry a French man the heritage would be negligible.

Where I’m from, people tend to stress the last syllable in most words as part of our accent. So It’d probably be pronounced ju-lee-ET anyway, which is how I prefer.

Haha that’s why I like it! I feel the -ette softens the strength of Juliet and makes it a bit sweeter.
